You Better Belize It !!! (Part 6)

.....today we are off to Caye Cauker, home of pirates from the 1500's to present. Water Taxi tickets are $15US per person..............

........the boats are covered in the last few years, but we used to sit in the rain if it rained...........

.....we rode the Big Al, with 3 200 hp Yamaha 4-strokes on the back. It takes about 25 minutes to go 12 miles.....

.........Caye Cauker is fun. Home of quite a few ex-Americans hiding out since the 70's from the law or the IRS or the Ex-wife. San Pedro is laid back, Caye Cauker is flat on it's back in a coma. The streets here will never be paved. We may end up here someday if San Pedro continues to grow and commercialize.......

..........Oceanside bar, like many, has a sand floor. I had stewed chicken at lunch. The owner is OJ from Cleveland and his wife runs the dive shop. They befriended us on our first visit in '99 and treated us like family when we drank too much and missed the boat out. They took us in their boat to San Pedro the next day for a great guided tour and saw that we got on the plane back to reality at the appointed time. We try to visit them each chance we get........

....this condo project sits on the best piece of real estate in Belize (tome). It is on the north end of the habitated island of Caye Cauker next to a bar (also for sale). We like to sit at the bar and watch the Europeans who like to sun themselves topless at times (not today, unfortunately) Belize is a pretty religious place and nudity is not tolerated. Walking down main street in a bikini will get you frowns (and leers, of course). My speedo attracted the police (kidding!!).................

......anyway, this is the bar at that place, with two bikinied Europeans in the background. The condo project was incorrectly built on faulty footings and sits empty. I am always tempted to buy this and run it as a resort, as I am sure every gringo who sits at this beautiful place is tempted. Yet here it sits year after year for sale. We invested in Belikins.......

...........one of the locals had caught some baby jellyfish and brought them to the bar where they entertained the patrons...

..........they attracted a steady stream of tourists. The lady in the bikini is Swiss, and if you look closely at her left thigh, she has the red remnants of yesterdays run in with a jellyfish in Guatemala. I believe she told me the treatment was urine or vinegar, whichever you have on hand. In my German it could have been reading from the bible or moonlight. The jellyfish have just hatched and do not usually present a problem in Belize.......

.....these shoes and sidewalk mosaics are a family tradition for a photo op...........

..........this bright orange bar with the name that needs no translation was just too tempting to pass up. We had to stop in for just "one more" Belikin..........
