JOBLIES

WAY BACK IN THE FAMILY HISTORY WE WOULD GO TO GRANDMA RECHSTEINERS AND SHE WOULD HAVE LITTLE “JOBLIES” FOR MY DAD AND UNCLE AJ TO DO. TRIM BACK THE BUSHES, WALLPAPER THE LIVING ROOM, YOU KNOW, A PROJECT AS LONG AS THEY WERE VISITING.

THEN MY DAD WOULD HAVE LITTLE “JOBLIES” FOR US KIDS WHEN WE WOULD VISIT. THE MOST MEMORABLE WAS MAKING FIREPLACE WOOD. WE WOULD HEAD OUT TO THE WOODS WITH OUR PERMIT, CHAINSAW, AN INVERTED CAR HOOD, AND A COUPLE OF SNOWMOBILES. HE WOULD RUN THE CHAIN SAW, AND WE WOULD PILE THE WOOD ON THE INVERTED CAR HOOD AND PULL IT OUT OF THE WOODS TO LOAD ON THE TRAILER.

NOW, IN THE THIRD GENERATION OF “JOBLIES” UNCLE HANS ORGANIZES THE PROJECTS FOR THE CONDOS ON SOUTH PADRE ISLAND. TODAY IT WAS FURNITURE FIXING….

AND A CURTAIN HANGING PROJECT. WE DIDN’T HAVE A TAPE MEASURE, SO WE WERE USING A DOLLAR BILL (WHICH IS 6”) TO MEASURE.
