FITBIT STATS

IT’S BEEN EXACTLY ONE YEAR SINCE I STARTED CARRYING MY FITBIT IN MY POCKET EVERYDAY. MY GOAL WAS WEIGHT LOSS, AND I LOST THE 40 POUNDS IN ABOUT SEVEN MONTHS.

ALONG WITH THE PEDOMETER YOU GET THE FITBIT SOFTWARE WHERE YOU CAN TRACK MANY THINGS, INCLUDING CALORIES, SLEEP, WATER, EXERCIZE, AND OF COURSE STEPS.

ANOTHER FUN FEATURE IS THE “FRIENDS” OPTION WHERE YOU ARE CONNECTED TO EACH OTHER THROUGH THE FITBIT SOFTWARE. YOU CAN SEE EACH OTHERS STEP COUNT FOR THE LAST SEVEN DAYS, CHALLENGE EACH OTHER TO STEP COUNT CONTEST, SEND EACH OTHER NOTES AND ENCOURAGEMENTS, AND FITBIT AWARDS YOU DIFFERENT DIGITAL MERIT BADGES. MY “FRIENDS” LISTS INCLUDES MY THREE GRANDSONS WHO LIVE IN HAWAII.

OK HERE COMES THE BIG NUMBER, 4,324,115 STEPS IN A YEAR. THAT’S 2,034 MILES. THAT’S AN AVERAGE OF 11,847 STEPS A DAY, OR JUST OVER 5 MILES A DAY.

THERE IS SOME SERIOUS STEPPAGE GOING ON OUT THERE !!!

50 YEARS

I RECENTLY MET UP WITH  HIGH SCHOOL CLASSMATE, CHRIS KNAUER. IT HAS BEEN OVER 50 YEARS SINCE WE’VE SEEN EACH OTHER AND VISITED. CHRIS AND HIS WIFE KAY ARE SNOWBIRDS SPENDING THE WINTER MONTHS IN PHOENIX AND THE REST OF THE YEAR IN DUBUQUE, IOWA.

I WAS AMAZED AT THE NAMES THAT CAME UP DURING OUR VISIT, OF CLASSMATES AND OTHER RESIDENTS OF STOCKTON, ILLINOIS.

CHRIS SPENT HIS CAREER AS “CHRIS O’BRIAN” A POPULAR RADIO DJ SERVING NORTHWESTERN ILLINOIS, SOUTHERN WISCONSIN, AND EASTERN IOWA.

ASH FORKS

I’VE BEEN UP AND DOWN INTERSTATE 40 A LOT SINCE I RAN AWAY FROM HOME IN 1999, AND NEVER GOT OFF ON THE EXIT FOR ASH FORKS, AZ. TODAY WAS THE DAY, SINCE MARY WAS WORKING AND I HAD ALL DAY TO DRIVE FROM PRESCOTT TO MOHAVE VALLEY. TO SAVE YOU ALL FROM TAKING THIS EXIT I INCLUDE A COUPLE OF PICTURES OF ASH FORKS:

THAT’S A SALOON AND AN HISTORICAL MARKER. TODAY ASH FORKS IS KNOWN FOR IT’S FLAG STONE MINING OPERATIONS.

FROM ASH FORKS I DROVE THE LONGEST REMAINING SECTION OF US ROUTE 66, 140 MILES, COMPLETE WITH BURMA SHAVE SIGNS.

ROTARY PARK MAKES A NICE SCOOTER RIDE, IT’S CLOSE TO THE MOOSE LODGE, AND IT HAS A NICE LONG WALKING PATH THRU THE PARK AND ALONG THE COLORADO RIVER. THE MAIN REASON I WENT TO THE PARK WAS TO GET SOME EXTRA STEPS, AS THERE IS SOME SERIOUS STEPPAGE GOING ON THIS WEEK-END WITH A FITBIT CHALLENGE INCLUDING, LAURA, AMY, MARY, ALAN, AND REX. I HOPE NOBODY GETS BLISTERS. IT’S A TWO DAY RACE TO GET THE MOST STEPS. DAY ONE IS NOT YET COMPLETED AND COMBINED TOTAL STEPS FOR THE FIVE OF US IS 82,684. I’LL LET YOU DO THE MATH, AND GUESS WHO’S IN THE LEAD.
