FIVE YEAR COUNTDOWN

FIVE YEARS AGO WE VACATIONED ON AMBERGIES CAYE JUST OFF THE MAINLAND OF BELIZE IN THE WESTERN CARRIBEAN.  WE LOVED THE THIRD WORLD ATMOSPHERE AND VOWED TO SOMEDAY RETURN.  WE STARTED A COFFEE CAN BELIZE FUND WHERE WE PITCHED OUR POCKET CHANGE, MONEY SAVED, GAMING WINS, ETC.

OVER THE FIVE YEARS I’VE READ A LOT ABOUT THE ISLANDS OFF BELIZE AND BECAME INFATUATED BY CAYE CAULKER.  A SMALL ISLAND WHO’S MOTTO IS “GO SLOW”.  I DAILY CHECK SEVERAL CAYE CAULKER BLOGS, AND ALWAYS ASKED UNCLE HANS FOR A FULL REPORT ON MY FAVORITE ISLAND WHEN HE VISITED BELIZE.

ONE OF THE BLOGS I READ TOLD OF THIS COUPLE THAT WENT TO VISIT CAYE CAULKER FOR THE AFTERNOON.  THEY ENJOYED THE “GO SLOW” ATMOSPHERE SO MUCH THEY DECIDE TO SPEND THE NIGHT.  THE NEXT DAY AFTER ENJOYING THE LOCAL PEOPLE, SUNSHINE, AND 80 DEGREE PURE BLUE WATERS THEY EXTENDED THEIR STAY TO THE REST OF THE WEEK.  TODAY IT’S BEEN TWELVE YEARS SINCE THEY’VE SEEN THEIR FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

THIS MORNING WE ARE PATIENTLY SITTING AND AWAITING OUR FLIGHT TO BELIZE CITY VIA HOUSTON.  BY 4PM THIS AFTERNOON WE WILL BE ON THE LAST LEG OF OUR JOURNEY TO CAYE CAULKER VIA WATER TAXI.

IS THIS GOODBY TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY?
