It’s Polish

A few weeks ago I was doing some baking.  Mostly cookies and brownies to have when my grandchildren came to visit.  I had the same problem I always seem to have when I mix stuff.  No decent mixing spoon.  The metal one hurt my hand as the dough gets stiffer.  On wooden ones the spoon part just isn’t right, so I decided to go to the local kitchen store, which is pretty upscale, and look for a decent mixing spoon.

DSC01304

This is the one they recommended.  The handle is 10.5 inches long and actually fits in my hand quite well.  I have only mixed cookies once since I go it but it seemed to work pretty well.

Oh and it’s made in Poland!  So I have a Polish mixing spoon.

Project For Mary

We had quite an extensive list of projects for us to work on this summer.  The big one, of course, was the front stoop.  I believe it took us 3 weeks to get that done.

I had added a couple of painting projects inside.  The bathroom and the kitchen, neither of which will be worked on this summer.  I have come to realize we need to save some things to work on next year and since they all cost money, I need to save up for them.

Having said that I decided that for my piece of mind I need to do something inside this year so I came up with a small painting project.

DSC01293

Prepping is the most pain in the ass part of a painting project.  It is also one of the most important parts.

DSC01296

Susie tried to be helpful!!

DSC01301

Since the space that I painted was so small, a lot of it required a paint brush.

DSC01299

Susie being helpful again!!

DSC01305

Done at last!!  How do you like the color…I wanted something bold as an accent.

DSC01306

Really done now…the curtain has been re-hung.

The nice thing about a small project, it doesn’t take very long!!  I don’t know maybe I can sneak in another small project this month.  We’ll see about that!

LAMBEAU LEAP

WHAT A THRILL IT HAD TO BE FOR 23 YEAR OLD ALEX GILLETT TO CATCH A PASS IN THE ENDZONE FOR THE PAKERS LAST NIGHT AND DO THE LAMBEAU LEAP INTO THE CROWD !!!  NOW THAT’S A MEMORY HE WILL HAVE FOREVER !!!

SPEAKING OF LAMBEAU LEAPS, DID YOU SEE JAMES JONES LOOK OVER HIS SHOULDER AND THINK ABOUT IT? IT WAS THE FIRST TIME HE EVER SCORED A TOUCHDOWN AT LAMBEAU AND DID NOT DO THE LAMBEAU LEAP.

NO WONDER THE FANS IN GREEN BAY WERE VOTED #1 LAST WEEK, AS THEY GAVE 8-TIME PRO BOWLER CHARLES WOODSON A STANDING OVATION. DID YOU KNOW HE’S THE ONLY PLAYER TO RECEIVE THE HEISMAN TROPHY AS A DEFENSIVE PLAYER?

I’M STILL NOT LIKING THE “ILLEGAL CONTACT” CALLS, 5 YARDS AND FIRST DOWN. LET ‘EM PLAY FOOTBALL FOR GOD’S SAKE!!!

* THE DOCTOR WAS LATE FOR MY DELIVERY, AND I WAS DELIVERED BY A NUN AT ST. CLAIR HOSPITAL IN MONROE, WIS.

* GAS WAS .17/GALLON

* THE NEW YORK YANKEES WON THE WORLD SERIES

* AMERICANS WERE BUYING 100,000 TELEVISIONS A WEEK

* “SILLY PUDDY” WAS INTRODUCED

* MINIMUM WAGE INCREASED FROM .40 CENTS TO .75 CENTS PER HOUR

*  BREAD WAS .14 A LOAF

Clean Up

Heather downloaded over 350 pictures for me to use to write blogs of their vacation.  That is a LOT of pictures and I wish I could have used them all but that would have been a lot of blogs!!

Anyway, this is the last blog on the subject of the Besl vacation so I am using some of the pictures that didn’t make the cut on the other blogs but that I really like.

DSCN2593

I didn’t see this picture when I did the blog on the Grand Canyon and I really like it so here it is.

DSCN2587

A couple views of the beautiful Grand Canyon that I just couldn’t resist adding.

DSCN2583

I included this one because I really like this picture of Ali and I also like the background.

DSCN2598

A controlled burn by Flagstaff that they ran across.

Another shot of the burn.

DSCN2580

I have lived in Arizona since 2000 and been on I-40 many, many times.  I have never seen an elk.  Randy wanted to see one and they were nice enough to show up for him.

DSCN2577

Not only one elk showed up but 2.

DSCN2675

They were fascinated by the squirrels we have running around the RV park here.  They finally got a picture of that big bushy tail and pointy ears!!

Vacation pictures like vacations all come to an end.  This is the end!!

HERE WE GO !!!

I GOT MY FIRST LOOK AT THE GREEN BAY PACKERS YESTERDAY AFTERNOON, IN A PRE-SEASON GAME AGAINST ST. LOUIS. RODGERS, LACY, NELSON, COBB, AND EVEN CROSBY FOUND THE GOALPOSTS.

THEY HAD TWO GREAT PACKER DRIVES, BUT I STILL WORRY ABOUT OUR DEFENSE. WILL THEY STAY HEALTHY?

ON A SIDE BAR I QUOTE ARRON RODGERS:

“It’s way over the top,” Rodgers said of an avalanche of defensive holding, pass interference and hands-to-the-face penalties, all part of the NFL’s new major point of emphasis for officials. “The game is too choppy if they’re going to call it like that. We had two touchdowns taken off the board. I don’t know how they can ref like that. It makes you always look back to see if there’s a penalty.”

IF THEY CONTINUE TO REF THE GAMES LIKE THAT, IT’S GOING TO GET AS BORING AS BASEBALL.

SPEAKING OF BASEBALL, I’VE GOT MY FINGERS CROSSED FOR THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS, AND A SUCCESSFUL POST-SEASON.

On To Williams AZ

On the way back from the Grand Canyon, the Besl family decided to visit the deer farm in Williams.

The deer are used to people and people feeding them.  They aren’t shy.

DSCN2609

In addition to deer there are other animals there.

I had no idea that the deer farm has such a variety of animals for the kids to see.

All the reports I got was that they really enjoyed themselves.  I think they are having a really great time in Arizona!

The Grand Canyon

No trip to Arizona is complete without visiting the Grand Canyon, one of the 7 natural wonders of the world.  Rex and I did not go with them but they brought me pictures so I could do a blog.

The Besl’s at the Grand Canyon.  Oops, Lexi is missing…..

DSCN2528

Here she is, she must have been behind the camera on the first one. This one has a better background anyway.  Heather was saying that she spoke to people from Germany, France, Indonesia, Belgium, and Spain while there.  She took pictures for some of them and they returned the favor.

Flagstaff Extreme Adventure Part 2

So on to the adult course!  As I mentioned this course has 6 levels, I am unsure how many challenges each level has but the course takes 3.5 to 4 hours to complete---if you are fit enough to complete it.  Only 20% get to the black level and only 10% complete the entire course.  At times they are up to 64 feet from the ground.  There are quite a few zip lines some 400 feet long.

DSCN2406

Mackenzie is walking the cable with Marissa waiting on the platform to go next.  Because Mack is a minor, she had to have an adult within 2 platforms of her.  Luckily, her sister Marissa is 18 so they more or less went through the course together.

DSCN2424

Heather said this “Tarzan” swing was one of the most challenging ones.  She was sliding down the rope and she got quite nervous.  Because Randy saw Heather’s difficulty with this one he did it without the gloves and had an easier time.

This is Alisha going from one tree to the next, with her Dad, Randy on the platform waiting to go next.

I am just going to put up pictures now for you to see the variety of challenges they did on this adventure.

Of the 6 members of Heather’s family that did the adult course 3 finished all six levels.  That would be Randy, Marissa, and Mackenzie!!!  Ali made it through 5 levels which is pretty wonderful considering she is only 11 and was not really feeling very well.    The one question I had was “would you do it again”?  Without hesitation they all said yes!!  I am so very proud of them!!
