LAKE HAVASU

YESTERDAY WE WERE IN LAKE HAVASU TO MEET THE HUNTERS AT JOE AND ROSEMARY’S HOUSE. WE’RE THE JENGA CROWD FROM THE MOUNTAIN. WE ENJOYED  A NICE SUMMER AFTERNOON (SUNNY & 80) ON THE PATIO, COMPLETE WITH SNACKS, ADULT BEVERAGES, AND OF COURSE SEVERAL GAMES OF JENGA.

DURING THE VISIT HUNTER ASKED WHY WE HADN’T POSTED ANYTHING ON THE BLOG? HE’S RIGHT, IT’S BEEN TWO WEEKS.

LET’S SEE, WHAT HAVE I BEEN UP TO THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS? WE SCHEDULLED A MOTORCYCLE RIDE TWICE WITH DAWN AND COLE TO SEE IF THE SCOOTER COULD KEEP UP WITH A HARLEY AND BOTH DAYS, HIGH WINDS CAUSED US TO CANCEL AND RESCHEDULE.  IN FACT, YESTERDAY’S TRIP TO LAKE HAVASU WAS SUPPOSED TO BE OUR FIRST OVERNIGHT SCOOTER TRIP AND DUE TO WIND IN THE FORCAST WE TOOK THE CAR INSTEAD.

SEEMS LIKE THE WIND BLOWS ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY WHEN MARY IS OFF WORK, AND THEN ON WEDNESDAY THE WIND DIES DOWN AND I HEAD OUT SCOOTER RIDING BY MYSELF. WE MAY NOT GET ANY SNOW, BUT WE DO HAVE SEVERAL WINDY DAYS A MONTH, AND BY WINDY I MEAN 20 – 25 MPH. I ALWAYS SAY TO THE COMPLAINING SNOWBIRDS, “YA, IT’S WINDY, BUT YOU DON’T HAVE TO SHOVEL THE WIND!”

I LOVE TO RIDE THE SCOOTER UP TO THE LAUGHLIN STRIP AND WALK AROUND THE CASINOS, AND ALONG THE RIVER WALK. IT’S A GREAT WAY TO GET YOUR 10,000 STEPS A DAY. LAST WEEK-END WAS THE POLARIS RZR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RACES. REMINDED ME OF LAURA AND BARRY’S RAZOR, ONLY THESE RACING MACHINES HAVE AIRPLANE MOTORS I THINK, AND THERE WERE 100’S OF THEM. SOMETIMES THE BELLE HAS MUSIC OUTSIDE ON THE RIVERWALK, AND I LOVE TO WATCH THE BULLHEAD AIRPORT ACROSS THE RIVER FROM THE CASINOS AS THE NAVY HAS 14 PLANES IN FROM PENSECOLA, FL TO TEACH NEW NAVY PILOTS FOR THREE MONTHS.  THEY DO TOUCH AND GOES FROM SUN UP TO SUNDOWN. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING GOING ON, CHILI COOK-OFFS, OLD CAR SHOWS, MUSIC, HOME AND GARDEN SHOW, AND ON AND ON.

ONCE AGAIN I’LL TRY TO SLIP MY CAMERA INTO MY POCKET AND DO A BETTER JOB ON BLOGGING.

OF COURSE I’M BUSY PLAYING POKER THREE NIGHTS A WEEK,  I’VE GOT MY PLANTS AND FLOWERS TO LOOK AFTER, MY CATS TO LOOK AFTER, AND I SPEND A LOT OF TIME SITTING ON THE PORCH READING MY KINDLE OR WATCHING DIRECT TV.

SUNNY & 80

I ALWAYS SAY THAT SUMMER WEATHER RETURNS TO MOHAVE VALLEY ON VALENTINES DAY. OF COURSE THE YEAR I TALKED UNCLE HANS INTO VISITING FOR VALENTINES DAY THE WEATHER WAS COLD AND RAINY, BUT OVER ALL WE ARE BACK INTO SHORTS AND T-SHIRTS BY THE MIDDLE OF FEBRUARY. THIS YEAR IT’S A WEEK EARLY AND FEELS GREAT !!!

SO FOR US, WINTER IS ABOUT SIX WEEKS FROM CHRISTMAS TO VALENTINES, AND BY WINTER I MEAN SWEAT PANTS, JEANS, AND A COAT.

THE LAST WEEK IT’S BEEN TOO WINDY TO GET THE SCOOTER OUT, BUT TODAY WAS THE DAY.

WE DIDN’T GET ANY PRACTICE RIDING TWO-UP, BUT WE HAVE HAVE ONE MORE OF MARY’S WEEK-ENDS OFF TO TRY AND GET SOME PRACTICE IN BEFORE OUR FIRST OVER-NIGHT ADVENTURE WITH THE SCOOTER TO LAKE HAVASU.

FOOTBALL SEASON

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY AND THE END OF ANOTHER FOOTBALL SEASON. I’M NOT REALLY A FOOTBALL FAN, BUT A PACKER FAN INSTEAD.

TO ME IT WAS A SIGNIFICANT FOOTBALL SEASON BECAUSE I NEVER MISSED ONE PACKER GAME. ONE OF THE BENEFITS OF RETIREMENT, NOT MISSING MY PACKER GAMES.

I EVEN GOT TO ENJOY WATCHING ONE GAME THIS SEASON WITH MY SON, PAULIE, IN VEGAS.

ALTHOUGH A SUPER BOWL 50 VICTORY BY THE PACK WOULD HAVE BEEN A PERFECT END TO THE SEASON, THE ELECTION OF BRETT FAVRE TO THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME COMES IN AS A SECOND BEST WAY TO END THE SEASON.

GO PACK GO !!!

NEW SCOOTER TRAILER / GARAGE

TODAY I TOOK DELIVERY ON MY NEW SCOOTER TRAILER / GARAGE. I REALLY ONLY TRAILER THE SCOOTER FOUR TIMES A YEAR, SHOW LOW AND BACK, AND WISCONSIN AND BACK, SO I COULD HAVE GOTTEN BY WITH A SMALLER FLAT BED TRAILER. MY REAL NEED WAS A GARAGE TO SAFELY PARK THE SCOOTER INSIDE.

NOW I HAVE LOCKED INSIDE GARAGE PARKING WHEREVER I WANT, AND ROOM TO STORE MY GEAR.

I COULD HAVE GOTTEN BY WITH A 5X8 TRAILER, BUT EVENTUALLY I PLAN TO CONVERT MY SCOOTER INTO A TRIKE AND WILL NEED A 6X10 TRAILER AFTER THAT PROJECT.

WE’VE HAD WHAT I HOPE TO BE OUR LAST COLD SPELL THE LAST FEW DAYS, AND WE HAVE A SCOOTER TRIP PLANNED WITH DAWN AND COLE FOR NEXT TUESDAY TO SEE IF THE BURGMAN CAN KEEP UP WITH A HARLEY. I’LL REPORT BACK……

The 15th Time

By Uncle Hans

Here is my car, parked next to the hospitalist's car.  She is a Nurse Practioner, Still wet behind the ears.  I am a general surgeon with 35 years experience.

Guess I got into the wrong line of work.

Here is my car after I collected my 15th lifetime deer, the fourth with this car.  I just wiped out the whole front end a few years ago.  As I remember the insurance company considered totaling it then, but ended up sending out an adjuster and cutting me a check for about $2500.  I got my body shop buddy to fix it like new for $1200 and pocketed the $1300.

This time they did total it.  Gave me $1300 for it but kept back the $500 deductible so the check was for $800......

I can't afford my body shop guy with only $800 so I called my junkyard guy, Bubba.  Bubba did the whole thing for $120, and I pocketed the $680.

The way I see it, only 6 more deer crashes and the car loan will be paid off!!
