House Plant

When I was a kid, if my mother thought I was spending too much time indoors, she would tell me to go outside and not be a houseplant.

I still spend a lot of time outdoors.  Don't want to be a houseplant!  Walking is a lifelong outdoor activity.  Most days, I walk between 4 and 5 miles.  Good thing, because I had an 8:00 AM haircut appointment this morning.  When I got in the car at 7:45 AM it would not start.  I called the saloon and said my car would not start and I could walk (it's only 1.25 miles away) but would be late and could they still see me.  The temp when I left home was 28 degrees, but no wind and sunshine.  In other words, a perfect winter day for a walk.

Rex said he liked my haircut.

I Miss Surfing!!!

I have been a channel surfer since they invented the term.

Now with smart televisions and streaming, it just is not possible to channel surf.

I know that most people found channel surfing either rude or annoying.  But I liked it.  I miss it.

Does anyone else feel this way?

A Man Of His Word

"A Man Of His Word"

Let that sink in.  Close your eyes, let it sink in.  Really think about it.  Do you know anyone, male or female, that you would describe as "a man of his word"?

When I was a kid, I heard people described with those words.  It was a time in history when you could trust people and believe that they would do what they said they would and when they said they would.

I don't find that to be the case anymore.  It is sad, it is worrisome, and it indicates that people no longer have any standards to which they hold themselves.

So many times I have made decisions or plans based on what I was told by whomever.  Very frustrating for me.  I have also been disappointed by people for not doing what they say they are going to do and when they say they will.  I am either blessed or cursed with an excellent memory so I don't forget when commitments are made.

I am also amazed by people that are shocked when I do actually do what I say I am going to.  Like most people I fall down on the job sometimes, but not real often.

My Dad was known as a hardworking, man of his word.  Maybe that is why it is so important to me.

There is only one thing any of us truly has in this world, and that is our word.

Toilet Paper

Ya, I know, I know, it's 2020 and the last thing you want to hear about is toilet paper.  But I am going to write a toilet paper story anyway.

I am a female and, being a female, I use toilet paper every time I go to the bathroom.  I kind of get really, really pissed (no pun intended) if there is no toilet paper in the dispenser.

Let me give you an example of how upset I can get.

At the health club I belonged to several years ago, I entered a stall in the locker room and noticed there wasn't any TP.  No big deal, I used another stall.  Then I went to the desk and told the 2 employees there that there wasn't any TP in that stall.  Cool, they will get right on it.

After my workout, I went to use the bathroom and went into that stall.  Unfortunately, I didn't check first for TP.  There wasn't a note on the door saying it was out of TP.  Was I really, really pissed.  Oh ya!  At the desk, the story I got was they were out of TP and the other employee ran to get some.  So why no note?  No real answer.  So I said, you know what, because there was no TP, I now have piss dribble in my pants, and I don't like piss dribble in my pants.  Then I walked out the door.

Do you think they're still talking about the old lady that bitched about piss dribble?

Now let's go to the incident in Socorro NM.

Socorro is right off the Interstate and I really had to go.  We stopped at the first place off the I.  For some reason, I happened to notice a sign on the window by the door.  I made a b-line for the ladies.  There was a lady in there washing her hands.

I went to a stall and went.  Damn, I had to go #2 and I didn't check for TP as is my custom.  I hate situations like this!!  I yelled out but I was the only one in the bathroom.  What do I do?  This is what I did.

I held my pants down below my knees and crab-walked to the next stall.  Guess What???  NO TP in the other stall either!  So I had to crab- walk to the sink (thank God no one came in) to get paper towels.  Did I want to put that in the wastebasket?  Absolutely not, but the alternative would be to flush it down the toilet and clog that.  Something I would never to no matter how pissed I am.

Now I am REALLY, REALLY PISSED.  I go storming out of the bathroom directly to the clerk and told him there was not 1 square of toilet paper in the ladies' room and that, that was unconscionable!

Unfortunately for her, the lady that was in the bathroom washing her hands was at the checkout.  I said she could have at least warned me.  I would have warned her.

Now, back to the noticed phone number.  I went out to the car, got my phone and called the manager.  I was not belligerent, or unreasonable.  I just told them how unacceptable it is to not have any TP in the ladies' room.

Do you think they still remember the old lady that had a fit over toilet paper?

P.S.  If I come to your house, please have toilet paper in reach.

NEW!!

Friday the UPS driver brought me a package with something I have not had in many, many years.

Yup, I had to buy a winter coat. I knew that eventually, we would be spending some wintertime on the mountain.  That became this year when our summer trailer was destroyed by a microburst.  Rather than rebuild there we decided it was time for some new adventures.

The coat I had been wearing in the winter for the last 5 years was a hand-me-down from my sister-in-law, had my last name emblazoned on the back, and was not warm enough for mountain winters.  I had been looking for a new winter coat for the last 2 years.  It was so exciting to find one that met all of my requirements!!

Friday was the perfect day for it to come because our weather turned from beautiful to COLD on Thursday.  I wasn't sure at first because I am not a fan of fake fur hoods.  Now that I have had the opportunity to wear it, I have decided that I made the right choice.  It has SIX pockets which, for me, made it really functional.  It has 3 ways to adjust the hood so that is working out.  I am now prepared for the winter weather this mountains throws at me!!

Nana

Nana

In the pool I met this wonderful, born and bred, Texas “Nana”.  She is a proud “farm girl” as am I, so we really hit it off.  She made a deep impression on me.

Several times a week she watches her 5-year-old granddaughter. Everyday, before she leaves, they have a little question and answer session.

The first question:  What did Nana do for you today?

The second question:  What did you do for Nana?

What an important lesson this little girl is learning.  A great way to point out to her that it takes someone doing things for us to exist.  And it takes us doing things for others, so we learn the ability to and, hopefully, learn to enjoy watching out for others.  This little girl is going to learn to recognize and appreciate this fact of life.  A lesson too few have learned.

Way to go Nana!!!

PORCH FOLLOW-UP

AFTER NOT BLOGGING ALL THRU THE COVID VIRUS, AND SUDDENLY HITTING YOU WITH THE LAST BLOG I FIGURED YOU NEEDED A FOLLOW-UP.

BEFORE:

THE PORCH WAS COMPLETED IN MAY 0F 2011.

AFTER:

MARY AND I ARRIVED IN MOHAVE VALLEY ABOUT NOON ON THURSDAY AND WENT TO WORK SORTING IT OUT.  AFTER AN HOUR OUR FRIENDS DAWN AND COLE ARRIVED TO RESCUE US ONCE AGAIN. IN THE NEARLY 20 YEARS WE'VE BEEN FRIENDS I CAN'T REMEMBER THE TIMES THEY HAVE RESCUED US FROM DEAD CAR BATTERIES AND LOCKING OUR KEYS IN THE CAR AT WALMART TO DRIVING ME CLEAR ACROSS THE STATE TO TRADE IN MY SCOOTER ON A BIGGER ONE.

MARY AND I ARE WORKING ON THE TRAILER AND PORCH AND THE TEMPERATURE IS 122 DEGREES, EVEN HOTTER INSIDE THE TRAILER. THEY SHUT US DOWN AND TOOK US TO THEIR AIR CONDITIONED HOME, TOOK US OUT TO DINNER, WENT FOR A DIP IN THEIR BACK YARD POOL, PUT US UP IN THEIR GUEST ROOM, AND WERE UP AT 5AM TO HELP US AT THE TRAILER.

THANK-YOU AGAIN !!!

AFTER 21 WINTERS AND 5 SUMMERS OUR MOHAVE VALLEY AND BOUNDARY CONE ARE NO LONGER HOME. WE PACKED UP SOME PERSONAL STUFF AND WALKED AWAY. THE TRAILER AND CLEAN-UP WAS SIGNED OVER TO A SALVAGE COMPANY AND WE CLOSED THAT CHAPTER OF LIFE.

WHAT'S NEXT?

LAST SUMMER MARY AND I HAD 4 NEW WINDOWS INSTALLED IN THE MOUNTAIN CABIN MAKING IT WINTER TIGHT AND OUR NOW PERMANENT HOME.

TO PREVENT THE COVID VIRUS WE STARTED TAKING HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE AND ZINC AND ARE LEAVING ON A THREE MONTH ROAD TRIP TO INCLUDE WISCONSIN, TENNESSEE, AND TEXAS ON SEPT 2AND.

WIND DAMAGE AT WINTER QUARTERS

WE HAD SOME WIND DAMAGE AT OUR TRAILER IN MOHAVE VALLEY. THE PICTURES WERE SENT TO US BY FRIENDS AND THE PARK MANAGER.

THIS JUST HAPPENED LAST NIGHT SO WE HAVEN'T MADE ANY DECISIONS AS TO WHAT WE ARE GOING TO DO ABOUT THE SCREEN PORCH. EVERYTHING IS STILL ON THE PORCH, FRIDGE, GRILL, FURNITURE, FREEZER, ETC.

WE HAD BEEN DISCUSSING SELLING THIS NEXT SEASON AND SPENDING MORE OF OUR WINTER AT SOUTH PADRE ISLAND AS UNCLE HANS GETS CLOSER TO RETIREMENT, BUT THE LOWER DESERT IS CLOSER TO THE CABIN AND I LOVE THE LAUGHLIN CASINOS AND BEING CLOSE TO VEGAS.

NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING TO MOHAVE VALLEY TO SORT THIS ALL OUT AS THE CURRENT WEATHER IS  "SUNNY & 117"

July 17, 2020

July 17, 2020

I start with the date because my impressions of life are relevant to the date.  I am appalled at the “state of the union”.  I do not have the vocabulary (?) to express what I feel.  Life in the third decade of the 21st century is as foreign to me as a different planet.  My upbringing did not, by any stretch of the imagination, prepare me for the world I am currently living in.   A pandemic that has effectively put us on lockdown since March 21, 2020.  So far it has wasted ONE THIRD of 2020.  It is impossible for one to understand how devastating this situation is to the citizens of the USA and the world. How is that possible?  Can one trust anything we hear on the news?  The news these days seems to have an agenda.  Am I wrong?  Should I believe what I hear on CBS, NBC, OR ABC. (Sorry to all the other news outlets, but I am old, and these are the ones I think of).

We live in fear of this virus.  We do not understand it.  We have no clue how to fight it.
That is just one of our current challenges.  George Floyd was murdered before our very eyes on nationwide television.  That sight has forever changed my life. For the first time, I feel that I have a slight understanding of what racial injustice means to people of color.  So now we have “BLM” and riots and violence against certain people and anger against statues and what they represent to some people.  I do not know what is right and what is wrong at this point.  I do not want to see the history of our country erased, good, bad, ugly, or politically incorrect.  What IS, IS.  What happened, happened.  We can only learn from our mistakes.

I do not have answers, I only have pleas to the people of this planet.  I know how grandiose that sounds, but I cannot help it.  I feel that mankind is at a critical point.  We ALL need to tap into our highest and most true self and the core of our individual being that loves life and relates to the existence of a higher power regardless of any individual label of that power.

I would like everyone to take a deep breath, look around, and try to imagine a world that has a place for everyone.  Then I would like you to live it.  One person at a time can change the world.

**Caveat –I would like to say that I could unequivocally accept and tolerate everyone, but that would not be true.  The truly evil, the people that have no empathy or humanity.  The people that are pedophiles, murderers, etc., etc., etc.  It is impossible to list all the perversions known to man, but I feel confident my meaning is clear.
Please make a positive difference.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY

MARY CELEBRATED HER BIRTHDAY THIS WEEK, AND IT WILL BE A BIRTHDAY TO REMEMBER. 2020 THE YEAR MARY TURNED 70 YEARS OLD DURING THE SELF-QUARANTINE FOR THE CORONA VIRUS.

WE GASSED UP THE PRIUS FOR TEN BUCKS AND HEADED UP THE WHITE MOUNTAINS IN A QUEST TO FIND SNOW. THE APACHE INDIAN RESERVATION AND THE APACHE NATIONAL FOREST HAVE CLOSED ALL THEIR RECREATION AREAS INCLUDING THE LAKES TO FISHING.  WE SOON CAME UP TO A ROAD CLOSED BARRICADE ACROSS THE ROAD AND WERE FORCED TO TURN BACK. THE ROAD TO THE SUNRISE SKI MOUNTAIN HOWEVER, WAS OPEN.

AND FULFILLED THE QUEST  OF FINDING SNOW.

TO CELEBRATE THE BIRTHDAY WE HAD PIZZA OFF THE GRILL......

AND MARY BAKED HER OWN JACK DANIELS BIRTHDAY CAKE.

THE CAKE WAS DELICIOUS AND INCLUDED MARY'S FAVORITE JACK DANIELS AND REX'S FAVORITE BUTTERSCOTCH.

WORST TRIP EVER !!!

MIKEY'S ANNUAL VISIT TO NEVADA IS ALL ABOUT HIS BIRTHDAY, MARCH MADNESS, AND ST. PAT'S DAY.

THIS YEAR WAS THE WORST TRIP EVER !!!

NOT ONLY THE "BEER-BUG" SLOWLY SHUTTING DOWN VEGAS, BUT THE WEATHER WENT TO HELL, WITH COLD, RAIN, AND CLOUDS.  FIRST IT WAS EVERY OTHER SLOT MACHINE AND ONLY THREE CUSTOMERS PER TABLE GAME, THEN THEY TOOK AWAY EVERY OTHER BAR STOOL. FINALLY AT 5 PM ON ST. PATS DAY THE GOVERNOR ORDERED ALL THE CASINOS CLOSED AT MIDNIGHT.

MIKEY LUCKED OUT AND CHANGED HIS FLIGHT HOME TO IOWA TO WEDNESDAY MORNING INSTEAD OF FRIDAY AFTERNOON, AND THE FOUR QUEENS KICKED US ALL OUT OF THE HOTEL ON WEDNESDAY MORNING.

HERE IS THE UPDATE ON THE NEW CASINO/HOTEL DOWNTOWN VEGAS.

MARY AND I ARE PACKING UP AT WINTER CAMP AND WAITING FOR A SNOW STORM TO CLEAR FLAGSTAFF AND HEADED TO "THE MOUNTAIN" AND OUR CABIN ON SATURDAY TO HUNKER DOWN.

STAY HOME AND WASH YOUR HANDS !

SPRING

IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR.

MIKEY MAKES HIS ANNUAL PILGRIMAGE TO VEGAS FOR HIS BIRTHDAY AND MARCH MADNESS BASKETBALL.

THE "BEER-BUG" AND WEATHER ARE MAKING THIS THE WORST TRIP IN HIS TEN YEARS OF VISITS.  MAYBE HE WILL GO HOME WITH MONEY SAVED ON BASKETBALL BETS?

WE'VE DONE THE WEEK-END IN LAUGHLIN AND ARE HEADED TO LAS VEGAS TODAY FOR THE WEEK.

WISH US GOOD LUCK AND GO WASH YOUR HANDS, YES AGAIN.
