19 DAYS

MARY IS ON THE COUNT DOWN WITH 19 DAYS LEFT UNTIL SHE’S DONE WITH CASINO WORK FOR ANOTHER SEASON. EASTER SUNDAY WILL BE HER LAST DAY.

IS SHE ALL DONE? IS SHE GOING TO RETIRE LIKE REX? NOPE, SHE DID THE PAPERWORK AND PLANS TO RETURN TO CASINO WORK RIGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING NEXT NOVEMBER.

IT’S REALLY HARD FOR HER TO THINK ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE OTHER THAN HER YARD AT THE CABIN ON THE MOUNTAIN. HERE ARE THE SEEDLINGS SHE HAS BEEN GROWING SINCE FEBRUARY.

THE REST OF THE FLOWERS ARE HOLD OVERS FROM THE CABIN FROM LAST SUMMER THAT WE’VE TRIED TO KEEP ALIVE ALL WINTER ON THE DESERT.

FRIENDS

ANOTHER TYPICAL DAY IN RETIREMENT, AS I TOOK THE SCOOTER TO ROTARY PARK ALONG THE COLORADO RIVER IN SEARCH OF MY 10,000 DAILY STEPS. I ALSO STOPPED AT THE HOME AND GARDEN SHOW ON THE MIRICAL MILE. ON THE WAY HOME I DECIDED TO SWING BY AND VISIT AN OLD WORK BUDDY, NATE. I HADN’T SEEN NATE SINCE THE CASINO DAYS AND IT WAS GOOD TO CATCH UP.

THEN WHEN I GOT HOME I HAD A VOICE MAIL FROM MY OLE BUDDY DANNY BECKER FROM WAUKON. HE WAS LAYING OVER IN KINGMAN, AZ ON HIS WAY TO PHOENIX. I KNOW YOU’RE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS, BUT WE GOT TOGETHER FOR A VISIT AND ONLY DRANK 4 BEERS !! YUP, NOT 40 BEERS, JUST 4 BEERS.

EVEN MARY WAS SURPRISED, I HAD LEFT HER A NOTE, AND SHE FIGURE SHE WOULDN’T SEE ME UNTIL THE NEXT DAY AFTER 40 BEERS.

CONSIDERING IT WAS JUST ANOTHER DAY, IT TURNED OUT TO BE OLD FRIENDS DAY WITH TWO SURPRISE VISITS.

TODAY IS ANOTHER TYPICAL DAY (“SUNNY & 80”) AND I’M ABOUT TO ROLL THE SCOOTER OUT OF THE TRAILER AND GO IN SEARCH OF MY 10,000 STEPS. THE ONLY THING BETTER WOULD BE A WALK ON THE BEACH AND A STOP AT WANNA WANNA WITH UNCLE HANS……

Turtle Rescue SPI

By Uncle Hans

We were first on the island in 2010 and we have never done the turtle rescue. Today is the day........

But Gerry came out to have a look at Renee

Renee once had an experience while scuba diving in Grand Cayman where she came face-to-face with a huge sea turtle and it was an enchanting moment. I had to practically drag her out of the rescue before she purchased her way onto the board of directors. This may be something in her future

Although she may just opt for the professional shell collecting position

SCOOTER UPDATE

I DON’T BLOG MUCH ABOUT THE SCOOTER, BECAUSE I ROLL IT OUT AND RIDE IT ABOUT 5 DAYS A WEEK, SO IT’S EVERYDAY ROUTINE AND UNBLOGABLE.

FOR EXAMPLE TUESDAY MARY AND I RODE IT OVER TO KINGMAN AND BACK (80 MILES ROUND TRIP), AND TODAY I HAD IT OUT ON OLD ROUTE 66 TO TOPOC FOR A BEER.

I OFTEN RIDE IT UP TO LAUGHLIN AND HIKE THE RIVERWALK IN SEARCH OF MY 10,000 STEPS A DAY.

MARY HAS BECOME MORE COMFORTABLE RIDING ON THE BACK, AND I HAVE HIGH HOPES THAT SHE WILL NOW BEGIN TO DRIVE THE MACHINE.

THE DESERT FLOWERS ARE IN BLOOM AND VERY COLORFUL THIS YEAR DUE TO THE EXTRA RAIN WE HAD LAST WINTER.

Green Bay

By Uncle Hans

Renee recently got the hankering to go to Green Bay in search of something interesting to do.  Neil got us all tickets to a stand up comedian and reservations at a great restaurant.  We had a great time.  but the funniest thing that happened had nothing to do with stand up comedy.  We made reservations to stay at a hotel, since this was like a "date night" for us.  I chose the hotel near Neil's where we stayed for Laura's wedding.  Remember?  With the pool/hot tub?

So we drove over there and went to check in.  The girl behind the desk was some sort of retard who could not find our reservation and seemed confused.  "Did you make a reservation for dinner, you mean?"  We went back and forth to try to figure out what had happened to our reservation.

.......finally, she meekly offered, "maybe you aren't where you think you are...."  I looked around the lobby and, something WAS wrong, but I could not put my finger one it.  So she said, " this is an assisted living facility......your hotel is across the street!"   She didn't have to actually say "dumbass!!"  it was written all across her face.

.....Somebody had some cool sculptures in their yard nearby and we had to stop for some pictures....

....the rest of the visit was fun, and funny, like this sculpture, but nowhere near as funny as our hotel experience.  After we ended our night at the Getaway and were driving back to the Hotel, we seriously considered checking into the assisted living instead.  There were a lot of pleasantly confused folks there.......

........and we would fit right in!

MIKEY*VEGAS*2017

MIKEY WAS OUT TO NEVADA FOR THE 6TH ANNUAL VISIT !!! FIRST AND FOREMOST I SURVIVED DESPITE STAYING UP UNTIL 6AM CHASING THE DICE AND MY MONEY ACROSS THE GREEN FELT. I WON !! SO I HAD TO SPEND ANOTHER NIGHT UNTIL 4AM GIVING IT BACK, PLUS MORE. IF YOU HAVEN’T HEARD THIS STORY BEFORE, 100 TIMES, YOU HAVEN’T BEEN PAYING ATTENTION.

WE STARTED OUT IN LAUGHLIN FOR FOUR DAYS AND SAW MICKY GILLEY. MAN IS HE OLD!! 81 ACTUALLY, AND STILL DOING LIVE PERFORMANCES. OF COURSE HE SANG “STAND BY ME” TO A STANDING OVATION. SATURDAY WE VISITED LAKE HAVASU AND IT WAS MIKEY’S FIRST VISIT TO SEE THE LONDON BRIDGE, DID I MENTION THAT LAKE HAVASU IS A BIG SPRING BREAK DESTINATION IN MARCH AND APRIL? THE LATEST FASHION IN SWIMWEAR IS TO HAVE ALL OF YOUR ASS HANGING OUT. INTERESTING, BUT I PREFERED THE TOPLESS, AND ELECTRICAL TAPE VIBE BETTER.

AFTER FOUR DAYS OF “SUNNY & 80” ON THE SHORES OF THE BEAUTIFUL COLORADO RIVER WE SPENT SIX DAYS ON FREMONT STREET DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS. WE SAW THE BEATLES “LOVE” SHOW AT THE MIRAGE ON THE STRIP AND THE SCINTAS SHOW AT THE PLAZA DOWNTOWN. MARCH MADNESS AND ST PATRICKS DAY ROUNDED OUT OUR STAY, WITH NEVER ENDING BASKETBALL GAMES AND A SEA OF GREEN.

LAS VEGAS BROKE A HIGH TEMPERATURE RECORD FOR MARCH WITH 90 DEGREES AND THE WHOLE WEEK WAS 15 – 20 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL MAKING FOR SHORTS AND T-SHIRTS EVEN AT NIGHT.

MARCH MADNESS AND ST. PATTY’S DAY WILL MAKE FOR A BUSY WEEK-END IN LAS VEGAS. THE LAUGHLIN WEATHER WILL BE SUNNY AND 80.

I’LL BE TAKING A BLOG BREAK UNTIL OUR VACATION AND RECOVERY DAYS ARE OVER.

MARY IS ON THE FINAL COUNTDOWN WITH 40 DAYS UNTIL SHE COMPLETES HER CASINO WORK FOR THIS SEASON.

(NOW, WHERE SHOULD I HIDE THE BAIL MONEY?)

5 K WALK FOR CANCER

TODAY I WENT TO A 5K WALK FOR CANCER IN LAUGHLIN.

DSC02229

THE WALKED STARTED IN PYAMID CANYON ALONG THE COLORADO RIVER AT THE BASE OF DAVIS DAM.

DSC02239

THERE WERE ABOUT 300 TO 400 WALKERS AND A FEW VENDORS. CINNABON WAS THERE HANDING OUT FREE BUNS BEFORE THE WALK.

DSC02232

AFTER THE WALK THERE WAS A SNACK SPREAD BY ONE OF THE CASINO CHEFS, AND LIVE MUSIC. THEY HAD ALL THE PARTICIPANTS LINED UP IN THE GRASS IN THE FORM OF A TREE OF LIFE AND USED A DRONE TO TAKE ARIEAL SHOTS, IF I SEE THE PICTURE ON THE NET I’LL POST IT.

THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HANDED OUT T-SHIRTS BEFORE THE WALK AND IF YOU FINISHED YOU TURNED IN YOUR PUNCH CARD FOR A GIFT BAG.

BULLHEAD CITY ROCKS, THE ROCK PAINTING GROUP I BLOGGED ABOUT BEFORE WAS THERE AND ENCOURAGED YOU TO PAINT A ROCK IN MEMORY OF SOMEONE YOU KNEW WHO HAD CANCER. YOU PAINTED THE BASE COAT BEFORE THE WALK AND DECORATED IT AFTER.

DSC02234

THE ROCKS WERE ALL GOING TO BE SEAL COATED AND DISPLAYED SOMEWHERE ALONG THE RIVER, AGAIN IF I EVER SEE A PICTURE ON THE NET I’LL POST IT. HERE IS MY FIRST PAINTED ROCK.

DOESN’T THE SCOOTER LOOK NICE?

THE SCOOTER’S BACK

WAHOO !!! THE SCOOTER IS FINALLY BACK AND THE OPERATION WAS A SUCCESS !!!

DSC05629DSC05630DSC05631

MARY AND I DROVE DOWN TO PHOENIX ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND SPENT THE NIGHT WITH OUR FRIENDS DAVE AND CINDY, AND PICKED UP THE SCOOTER ON WEDNESDAY MORNING.

DSC05625

DSC05627

AFTER A FEW POINTERS FROM SCOTT OF SCOTT’S CUSTOMS, I TOOK MY FIRST RIDE.

DSC05628

THE TRIKE DRIVES LIKE A CAR, NOT A MOTORCYCLE, AND IS GOING TO TAKE A LITTLE GETTING USED TO. I THINK MARY WILL PROBABALLY CATCH ON QUICKER THAN I BECAUSE SHE DOESN’T HAVE ANY MOTORCYCLE EXPERIENCE TO UNLEARN.

THEY SAY IF YOU MAKE YOUR BIKE INTO A TRIKE IT EXTENDS YOUR RIDING YEARS BY 10, SO I’M NOW GOOD TO 78!
