SUMMER HEAT

THE TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN IN THE HIGH 90’S THIS WEEK-END. I’VE SPENT ALL THREE DAYS SCOOTER RIDING WITH AIR CONDITIONED STOPS.

THE FIRST DAY WAS ERRANDS: HAIRCUT, THE BANK, AND ACE HARDWARE. THE SECOND DAY I RAN UP TO LAUGHLIN TO CHECKOUT A BBQ CONTEST, AND TODAY WAS OLD ROUTE 66 TO TOPOC AND THE SILVERDOLLAR FOR A COLD BEAST.

DSC04604

IT IS UNUSUAL TO HAVE 95 DEGREE DAYS THIS EARLY IN THE SEASON, AND IT’S SUPPOSED TO COOL BACK DOWN NEXT WEEK. THE NIGHT TIME TEMPS HAVE BEEN IN THE MID-60’S SO NO AIR CONDITIONING AT HOME SO FAR.

MARY HAS A MONTH LEFT OF CASINO WORK, AND SHE SURE IS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SUMMER OFF.

VEGAS BABY

MIKEY LIKES TO SCHEDULE HIS VACATION TO LAS VEGAS DURING MARCH MADNESS. WHEN MIKEY ARRIVES THERE ARE 66 TEAMS IN THE TOURNAMENT, AND WHEN HE GOES HOME THE TOURNAMENT IS DOWN TO THE SWEET SIXTEEN. THAT’S A LOT OF BASKETBALL GAMES TO WATCH AND KEEP TRACK OF.

BESIDES BASKETBALL, MIKEY DID THE NEW ZIP LINE THAT GOES THE FULL LENGTH OF THE FREMONT EXPERIENCE, THE NEW HIGH ROLLER FERRIS WHEEL AT THE LINQ, A SHOW AT CEASAR’S PALACE, A SHOW AT THE FOUR QUEENS, AND LOT’S OF GAMEING.

DSC04599

I THOUGHT I OUT GREW THAT ALL NIGHTER SHIT, BUT SURE ENOUGH THERE WAS ONE NIGHT IT WAS 5AM BEFORE I HIT THE HAY, AND I THINK MIKEY WAS A COUPLE OF HOURS BEHIND ME. WE’RE NOT AS YOUNG AS WE USED TO BE, AND THE NEXT MORNING COFFEE AND BREAKFAST WAS SERVED TO US AT 3PM IN THE AFTERNOON.

THAT WAS THREE TRIPS, AMY, NEIL, AND MIKE, TO VEGAS IN A MONTH. NOW I NEED TO STAY HOME AND REST ……….

THE GRAND CANYON

MIKEY AND I DID A ROADTRIP TO SEE THE GRAND CANYON. WE GOT TO THE CANYON ABOUT 2PM AND DID A THREE MILE HIKE ALONG THE RIM, AND THEN RETURNED THE NEXT MORNING TO VIEW THE CANYON IN THE MORNING LIGHT.

WITH SPRING BREAK THE CANYON WAS VERY BUSY AND WE SPENT WAY TOO MUCH TIME LOOKING FOR A  PARKING PLACE. THE EARLY MORNING VISIT WAS MUCH BETTER, EVEN IF WE DID HAVE TO WEAR LONG PANTS.

WE STOPPED ON THE WAY OUT TO VIEW THE IMAX MOVIE SO WE COULD SEE THE HISTORY AND WHAT THE BOTTOM OF THE CANYON LOOKS LIKE.

I JUST HAD TO CREEP OUT TO THE EDGE LIKE THE KIDS AND LOOK OVER THE EDGE, EXCEPT THE KIDS ARE SITTING ON THE EDGE KICKING THEIR FEET.

DSC04576

THE GRAND CANYON IS THE MOST AMAZING HOLE IN THE GROUND ON EARTH. 277 MILES LONG, 10 MILES ACROSS, AND A MILE DEEP. THERE ARE NO PICTURES, ART PAINTINGS, OR VIDEOS THAT REALLY SHOW THE GRAND CANYON, YOU HAVE TO GO THERE AND STAND ON THE RIM YOURSELF TO SEE IT.

LAUGHLIN MEET-UP

WE SPENT THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS UP-RIVER AT LAUGHLIN WITH OUR SUMMER CAMP NEIGHBORS FROM “THE MOUNTAIN”. I’D GUESS THERE WERE 60 – 75 OF US IN THE GROUP.

WE STARTED WITH A COCKTAIL HOUR AT THE AQUARIUS CASINO, THEN DINNER AT THE OUTBACK STEAKHOUSE. THE NEXT DAY WAS A LUNCHEON AT CASA SARRONOS.

DSC04515

DSC04516

EIGHT OF US WENT TO A BUDDY HOLLY IMPERSONATOR SHOW AT THE RIVERSIDE. WE WERE UP EARLY FOR A MORNING HIKE WITH HUNTERS.

DSC04510

THE WHOLE TRIP WAS VERY FUN AND POSITIVE. AS YOU KNOW FROM A PAST POST THE LOCAL HOSPITAL HAS PURCHASED THE PROPERTY THAT OUR RV PARK SITS ON AND WE ONLY HAVE A COUPLE YEARS TO MOVE ON. WE ARE ALL IN THAT SAME SINKING BOAT, BUT YET NEW PLANS WERE MADE FOR NEW ACTIVITIES NEXT SUMMER. VERY FEW HAVE PLANS TO MOVE ON FOR THE NEXT TWO SUMMERS, AND EVERYBODY IS COUNTING DOWN THE DAYS TILL MAY 1ST, ESPECIALLY MARY!!!

Fixing Snowmobiles, The Sequel

By Uncle Hans

Here is a sequel to the last "fixing snowmobiles" blog.  The guys were out with the sled with the new wear rods , when they tried to cross the railroad tracks.  One must stay on the trail here. as if you hit the steel rails off the trail, this happens......

ski

......so. it is back to the shop.  Of course the Swiss don't just replace the damaged $30.00 part, they straighten it and put it back on........

ski2

......there!  straight and good as new...almost...

NASCAR VEGAS

UNCLE NEIL AND HIS FRIEND BIG MIKE ARE IN LAS VEGAS FOR THE NASCAR RACE, SO I TOOK A RUN UP TO THE CITY TO HAVE ONE COLD BEER WITH HIM. YA, RIGHT !!!

WE HIT WESTGATE TO MAKE THE PROPER BETS AT THE SPORTS BOOK AND THEN TOOK THE MONORAIL TO THE NEW LING DISTRICT.

DSC04495

THIS IS THE NEW ATTRACTION, THE “HIGH ROLLER”. WE SKIPPED THE RIDE, WITHOUT A BARTENDER AND BATHROOM WHAT’S THE POINT?

WE FOUND THIS BAR IN THE LING DISTRICT.

DSC04498

YOU’RE NOT GONNA BELIEVE IT, IN THE LAND OF $8 BUD LIGHTS THEY HAD THE BEAST AND OLE’S FOR $2/CAN.

DSC04500

NEIL REPORTS THAT EVEN AFTER ALL THESE YEARS OLYMPIA BEER STILLS TASTES LIKE CRAP.

DSC04496

WE WALKED ABOUT ON THE STRIP A LITTLE AND THEN TOOK A CAB DOWNTOWN TO FREEMONT STREET.

25 HOURS TO GO HAVE ONE COLD BEER WITH UNCLE NEIL. ENJOY THE RACE GUYS!
