RANCH HOUSE SALOON

WE HAD THE SCOOTER OUT IN SEARCH OF THE RANCH HOUSE SALOON, JUST OUTSIDE OF SNOWFLAKE, AZ. OUR FRIENDS THE HUNTERS DON’T HAVE A SCOOTER, BUT THEY DO HAVE A 1963 VOLKSWAGON BEETLE THAT THEY TOOL AROUND IN FOR KICKS.

WE MET THEM THE OTHER AFTERNOON FOR COCKTAILS. THE LESSON OF THE DAY WAS WIND GUSTS, WHOA… HANG ON FOR THOSE. I GOT TO SAY IT WAS FUN TO FINALLY FIND A COWBOY BAR. THEY ARE HARD TO FIND IN THIS AREA OF INDIANS AND MORMONS.

ITALIAN NIGHT

ITALIAN NIGHT AT THE CLUB HOUSE WAS AN INTERESTING CONCEPT. THE RV PARK PROVIDED THE COOKED PASTA AND THE SAUCES, BREADS, AND DESERTS WERE POTLUCK. THERE WAS ALSO A WINE BAR SET UP.

tp

AS YOU CAN SEE THERE WERE AT LEAST SIX DIFFERENT SAUCES TO PUT ON YOUR SPAGHETTI. A TABLE OF BREADS AND DESERTS ROUNDED OUT THE MENU.

tp2

tp1

THERE WAS A NICE CROWD OF ABOUT 30 PEOPLE AND WE EVEN HAD LIVE ENTERTAINMENT.

FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT THINK ARIZONA IS ALL DESERT AND SAGEBRUSH, I’M UNHAPPY TO REPORT THE FIRST SNOWFALL OF THE SEASON ON THE SAN FRANCISO PEAKS AT FLAGSTAFF YESTERDAY MORNING.

PIZZA PARTY

WE HAD OUR ANNUAL PIZZA PARTY ON THE BACK DECK. WE JUST DON’T USE THE DECK ENOUGH, WE SPEND MOST OF OUR TIME ON THE SCREEN PORCH.

DSC01790DSC01791DSC01792DSC01793

THE CREW WAS JOE & ROSEMARY, THE HUNTERS, AND MARY & I. WE WERE ALL CLOSE NEIGHBORS AT PINE SHADOWS. THIS IS THE LAST SEASON AT PINE SHADOWS, AND ROSE AND JOE DECIDED TO ADD AN AIR CONDITIONER TO THEIR HOME AT LAKE HAVASU AND SPEND NEXT SUMMER THERE. THE HUNTERS HAVE BOUGHT AN A-FRAME HOME ACROSS TOWN ON A PINE TREE COVERED LOT, AND OF COURSE WE’RE AT TALL PINES. IT’S GOTTEN A LITTLE UGLY, AND NEGATIVE AT PINE SHADOWS NEARING THE END, AND JOE AND ROSEMARY ARE ENDING THEIR SEASON AND RETURNING TO LAKE HAVASU ON THURSDAY.

WE WILL SEE THEM IN NOVEMBER WHEN WE RETURN TO WINTER CAMP IN THE MOHAVE VALLEY.

HERE’S A SHOT OF MARY’S CALIFORNIA PIZZA.

NICE PLACE, BUT JUST A LITTLE TOURISTY FOR ME. WE HEADED ON DOWN THE ROAD TO THE CABIN BAR AND GRILL.

NOW THIS IS MORE LIKE IT. I THOUGHT WE WERE “UP-NORTH” IN WISCONSIN. IN THE BACKYARD THEY HAD THE MOST USED JENGA BOARDS I’D EVER SEEN, AND CORN HOLE , TOO.

LAST WEEKS LESSON WAS SUNBURN, AND I MIGHT ADD THAT THE NEXT DAY I BOUGHT AN EXSPENSIVE LONG SLEEVE POLYESTER SHIRT TO PREVENT THAT PROBLEM. I ALSO FOUND A PAIR OF BLACK JEANS FOR $3 AT THE THRIFT STORE. THIS WEEK’S LESSON WAS RAIN……

TODAY’S RUN WAS 80 MILES, AND WE STILL HAVEN’T DONE AN OVERNIGHT SCOOTER TRIP, SO WE HAVE MORE ADVENTURES TO COME.

Riverside Park

Riverside Park in La Crosse has been a favorite place for people to hang over for over a century.  In the past years it has become one of the most favorite parks in the city and because of the very expensive high rise apartments built behind it, it has become somewhat “upscale”.  I was at the park about 3 times with various grandchildren while in WI.

So will share some pictures of this really beautiful park.

DSC01794

The park has a garden and this is my granddaughter Mackenzie standing in the entrance.

This garden started as a tribute to and by the European “Sister Cities” that La Crosse had.

So enjoy the garden.

This evergreen (I think) has what look like needles growing in a swirling pattern.  Thought it was cool.

I know, too many pictures for one blog but I like them.

Anyway Riverside Park is well worth visiting.

MEN’S BREAKFAST

TALL PINES RV PARK HAS A SOCIAL CALENDER EACH SUMMER. IN AUGUST IT INCLUDES A MEN’S BREAKFAST, WHERE THE MEN COOK AND SERVE BREAKFAST. IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I’VE HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH FOOD SERVICE, BUT I DECIDED TO VOLUNTEER.

I SHOWED UP AT 6PM ON FRIDAY NIGHT TO HELP SET-UP AND GET MY ASSIGNMENT. TEN MEN SHOWED UP TO VOLUNTEER, AND I HELD BACK FOR AN ASSIGNMENT INSTEAD OF PUTTING UP MY HAND FOR ANY COOKING. I FIGURED I’D END UP DISHWASHING. MY CHORE WAS TO SERVE THE PANCAKES AS PEOPLE CAME THRU THE LINE.

32 PEOPLE SIGNED UP FOR BREAKFAST AND 10 OF THEM WERE THE MEN VOLUNTEERS, HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO SERVE 22 PEOPLE PANCAKES?

ALL 10 GUYS STAYED TO CLEAN UP AND OF COURSE THE WIVES COULDN’T STAND IT AND DID MOST OF THE WORK. I THOUGT SOMEBODY WOULD HAVE PICTURES UP ON FACEBOOK BY NOW THAT I COULD STEAL.

AND HERE THEY ARE , LATE:

NEXT UP IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS IS AN ITALIAN NIGHT WHERE THE PARK PROVIDES THE COOKED PASTA, THE SAUCES AND THE SIDE DISHES ARE POTLUCK.

DSC01742

THIS WILL BE MARY’S ITALIAN POTLUCK ENTRY. IT’S ONE OF THOSE FACEBOOK RECIPIES USING CRESENT ROLLS. IT’S STUFFED WITH PROVOLON CHEESE, SALAMI, HAM, AND PROSCIUTTO. HALF ALSO HAS ROASTED RED PEPPERS AND BANANA PEPPER RINGS AND A REALLY NICE SELECTION OF MUSTARDS FOR THOSE THAT USE IT.  THE PICTURE IS FROM A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO WHEN MARY TESTED THE RECIPE AND TOOK IT TO A THURSDAY AFTERNOON COCKTAIL HOUR AT THE CLUB HOUSE.

IN SEPTEMBER WE HAVE AN 899 MILE GRAND CANYON SCOOTER TRIP PLANNED, SO AFTER THE MEN’S BREAKFAST WE LOADED UP THE SCOOTER AND DID 125 MILE LOOP OUT TO ST JOHNS AND SNOWFLAKE, AZ.

DSC05464

WE’VE GOT TO CONDITION OUR BUTTS TO DO 250 MILES A DAY. SUNBURN WAS THE LESSON OF THE DAY.
