BRICKS AGAIN

DO YOU REMEMBER MY BRICK PILE? IT’S 336 BRICKS THAT WERE PILED IN THE SIDE YARD WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRAILER. MY THREE GRANDSONS PLAYED WITH THEM LIKE LEGOS. I HAD THE PLEASURE OF RE-STACKING THEM A COUPLE OF TIMES.

THEN I HAD THE BRIGHT IDEA OF USING THEM TO BUILD A SCOOTER-PORT. I MOVED AND HANDLED THE BRICKS SEVERAL MORE TIMES.

AFTER MOVING THESE BRICKS SO MANY TIMES, I’VE BECOME ATTACHED TO THEM AND DECIDED TO MOVE THEM TO THE CABIN.

I’M POSITIVE I PILED THEM IN THE WRONG SPOT, AND I’LL HAVE TO MOVE THEM ALL AGAIN?

FIRST PICTURES OF THE NEW CABIN

THE NEW (TO US) CABIN DEAL FINALLY CAME TOGETHER RIGHT ON SCHEDULE. NOW WE HAVE AUGUST TO CONSOLIDATE THE ITEMS IN THE CABIN AND THE STUFF IN THE TRAILER AND SET UP THE BEST OF BOTH IN THE CABIN. HOPE TO BE RID OF THE OLD TRAILER BY THE FIRST OF SEPTEMBER AND THAT FINANCIAL LOSS AND NIGHTMARE WILL BE BEHIND US.

AT TALL PINES (THE NEW RV PARK) THE PROPERTY IS OWNED BY THE RESIDENTS SO THERE WON’T BE ANY PROBLEMS OF THE OWNER SELLING THE REAL ESTATE OUT FROM UNDER US. IN FACT THERE ISN’T EVEN A MORTAGE ON THE LAND AND OUR ANNUAL COST IS A LITTLE OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR, COMPARED TO RENT OF $3,050./YEAR WE WILL BE SAVING $2,000.00 A YEAR. ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS USE THE CABIN FOR 25 SUMMERS AND WE WILL HAVE ALL OUR MONEY BACK. KINDA MAKES UP FOR THE HIT (LOSS) WE ARE TAKING ON THE PARK MODEL THIS YEAR.

ENOUGH OF THAT SHIT; HERE ARE THE PICTURES.

MARY’S HONDA FITS NICELY UNDER THE ATTACHED CAR PORT.

THIS IS THE FRONT, HALF IS SCREEN PORCH, AND THE OTHER HALF IS LIVING ROOM. THERE IS A BRICK WALK WAY UP TO THE PORCH AND IT CONTINUES ALONG THE FRONT TO THE BACK DECK.

DSC04785

THIS IS THE BACK DECK ALL CONSTRUCTED OUT OF THE TREX MATERIAL INSTEAD OF LUMBER, SO THERE IS NO MAINTAINANCE. THERE IS ALSO A DOOR ON THE DECK THAT LEADS RIGHT INTO THE KITCHEN AND LIVING ROOM. LOOKING OFF THE BACK DECK WE HAVE A VIEW OF THE NEIGHBORING RANCH’S WATERING POND FOR HIS CATTLE.

THE KITCHEN, DINNING, AND LIVING ROOM ARE ALL DONE IN KNOTTY PINE GIVING YOU THE MOUNTAIN CABIN FEEL INSIDE AS WELL.

THIS SHOT IS TAKEN FROM THE SLIDING GLASS DOORS IN THE LIVING ROOM TO THE FRONT SCREEN PORCH. THE PORCH FURNITURE IS ALL WICKER AND THE GREEN DOOR ON THE RIGHT LEDS INTO THE BEDROOM.

THERE ARE FOUR CEILING FANS IN THIS ONE BEDROOM CABIN AND WE DIDN’T GET ANY PICTURES OF THE ATTACHED SHOP OR STORAGE SHED, BUT OVER THE YEARS I’M SURE YOU’LL SEE PICTURES OF IT ALL.

FLAGSTAFF

WE’VE BEEN DRIVING PAST FLAGSTAFF, AZ FOR 16 YEARS ON INTERSTATE 40, AND NEVER EXITED TO LOOK AROUND OR BUY GAS OR ANYTHING. WE NEEDED TO VISIT BANK OF AMERICA AND SINCE THEY LEFT SHOW LOW LAST SPRING IT WAS A ROADTRIP TO FLAGSTAFF.

AFTER THE BANK WE FOUND THE OLD PART OF DOWNTOWN FLAGSTAFF, AND THE OLD BUILDINGS HAVE BEEN WELL PRESERVED. WE HAD A SANDWICH AND BEER AT THE OLD WEATHERFORD HOTEL ($50), AND WALKED AROUND DOWNTOWN.

ON THE WAY OUT OF TOWN WE STOPPED AT WALNUT CANYON, A NATIONAL MONUMENT, AND THAT’S WHERE THE PICTURES ARE FROM.

IT’S NOT THE GRAND CANYON, BUT IT’S WORTH A LOOK OVER THE EDGE.

WE SAW MORE ORANGE CONSTRUCTION BARRELS TODAY THAN WE DID ON OUR 4,000 MILE TRIP TO WISCONSIN AND BACK IN JUNE. TWICE WE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND SAT FOR 20 MINUTES.

I BET THE TRAFFIC AT THE REAL GRAND CANYON WAS BACKED UP 5 OR 10 MILES JUST TO GET IN.

STICKY BUNS

IN JULY AND AUGUST WE HAVE MONSOON RAINS. THIS AMOUNTS TO A MOUNTAIN RAIN POPPING UP IN THE LATE AFTERNOON, ABOUT JENGA TIME. SEEMS LIKE OUR TUESDAY AFTERNOON JENGA GAME WAS ALWAYS BEING RAINED OUT. I SOLVED THE PROBLEM BY SCHEDUALLING THIS WEEKS TUESDAY JENGA AT 9:00 AM.

I HAD MARY PUT TOGETHER STICKY BUNS THE NIGHT BEFORE AND I BAKED THEM OFF IN THE DUTCH OVEN DURING JENGA. JOE AND ROSEMARY MIXED AND BROUGHT A PITCHER OF BLOODY MARYS.

ONE OF A KIND !!!

I’VE BEEN A GREEN BAY PACKER FAN SINCE THE DAYS OF LOMBARDI, STARR, AND NITSCHKE. I EVEN WATCHED THE GAMES BETWEEN 1968 AND 1995, AND THAT’S A LONG STRETCH OF SHITTY FOOTBALL.

TODAY IS THE DAY BRETT FAVRE IS INDUCTED INTO THE PACKERS HALL OF FAME. I STILL READ EVERY ARTICAL ON THE INTERNET THAT MENTIONS FAVRE COMING BACK TO THE NFL, INCLUDING TWO WEEKS AGO WHEN HE SAID HE COULD STILL PLAY.

THE MIGHTY GUN-SLINGER WAS LIKE A GOD! I REMEMBER FONDLY WATCHING MY PACKERS IN FRANKVILLE WITH PAULIE AT THE SUPPER CLUB, AND MY STANDING BET WITH TERESA THAT THE PACK WOULD WIN AND THE BEARS WOULD LOSE NO MATTER WHO THEY PLAYED.

MARY AND I WILL NEVER FORGET WALKING INTO FAVRE’S ON THE BAYOU IN KILN, MISSISSIPPI AND HAVE BONITA FAVRE WALK UP TO OUR TABLE AND INTRODUCING HERSELF AND BRETT’S BROTHER SCOTT.

THIS SUMMER WHEN WE WERE ON VACATION AT BOULDER LAKE, I WALKED INTO A LITTLE BAR JUST SOUTH OF TOWNSEND, WI AT 11AM AND SUPER BOWL 31 WAS PLAYING ON THE WIDE SCREEN TV.

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE THANKSGIVING NIGHT GAME WITH THE CHICAGO BEARS AND THE ADDITION OF BRETT FAVRE TO THE RING OF HONOR AT LAMBEAU FIELD.

WE HAVE CONTINUED TO LOOK AT OTHER RV PARKS AND FOUND AN INTERESTING ONE ABOUT A HALF A MILE AWAY ON THE EDGE OF TOWN. THE PARK IS CALLED TALL PINES AND ONLY HAS 64 SITES. THE PARK IS OWNED BY THE TRAILER OWNERS AND SET UP AS A CORPORATION WITH HOA FEES PAID BY THE MEMBERS. THE $85/MONTH IS CONSIDERABLLY CHEAPER THAN PAYING RENT. WE FOUND THIS ONE BEDROOM CABIN ON THE VERY EDGE OF THE PARK WITH NEIGHBORS ONLY ON THE BACK AND HAVE MADE AN OFFER.

WE WILL KEEP YOU UP TO SPEED ON THIS PROJECT IF AND WHEN THE DEAL CLOSES.

THE WHITE MOUNTAINS

AFTER OUR THREE WEEK VISIT HOME IN WISCONSIN, WE’VE SETTLED INTO LIFE ON “THE MOUNTAIN”.

THE ONLY TWO ITEMS ON THE “TO DO LIST” WERE TO WAX THE CAR AND TRUCK, AND WE GOT THEM BOTH DONE THIS WEEK.

IN THE SUMMER WE DO OUR MEDICAL SHIT, AND IN THE WINTER IT’S THE DENTAL STUFF, SO THERE ARE APPOINTMENTS TO KEEP ON THE CALENDAR. WE TRY TO GET OUR 10,000 STEPS A DAY WITH SEVERAL HIKES THROUGH OUT THE WEEK. WE ACTUALLY DO WELL AT THIS GOAL AND IT HELPS TO START THE DAY WITH A WALK OVER TO THE SUPER WALMART.

WHEN WE HAVE THE CAR OUT WE TRY TO VISIT ANOTHER RV PARK SO THAT WHEN THE TIME COMES TO MOVE WE HAVE AN IDEA OF WHICH PARKS WE LIKE AND DISLIKE. PINE SHADOWS,AT LAST COUNT, IS DOWN TO 68 UNITS.

THIS WEEK-END WILL HAVE 4TH OF JULY EVENTS, AND WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN TO SHOW LOW DAYS, AND A HAMFEST IN JUNE.

MARY HAS HER FLOWERS AND TOMATOE PLANTS, AND IS GETTING ORGANIZED FOR A NEW WOOD WORKING PROJECT.

THE MONSOON SEASON IS HERE, AND SO WE GET A MOUNTAIN RAIN, OR THREAT OF RAIN, EACH AFTERNOON AT 4 PM. IT’S BEST TO LOAD UP THE DEVIL’S EGG ABOUT 3PM TO AVOID GETTING WET.
