Beautiful Lake Tahoe

Today we went on a cruise to Emerald bay. It was really nice, but COLD. the wind was so strong. The M.S. DIXXIE 2...(the boat that we went on) was made in La Crosse and then shipped to Tahoe in 3 different parts which then was soon re-put together. Then after that we went on a hike. It was easy down but hard getting up.. anyways, once we got to the bottom of our hike, was the lake. The water there was a light green..really pretty. There were HUGE rocks. People that were at the beach that we found were jumping off them into the ICY cold water. I also came across many tiny lizards. I don't have a picture of them, because they are so speedy. Back to the walk up to the car, I thought it was pretty fun, but it was hard too. We had to stop a few times and catch some air. I saw a lot of litter. I don't know, but i have a feeling in the next ten years or so the lake wont be as clear as it is now.. but thats just my thought. We drove around the lake to end our day. Its really nice, and when you drive around it you really get a nice view at some areas and can see how big it really is.

This is the M.S Dixxie the 2.

On the boat...being froze to death.

Lake Tahoe...with the beautiful mountains.

The beach that our hike lead us to.. Rex calls it the nude beach becuase I guess him and my grandma seen people sun-tanning nude. Those are some of the HUGE rocks we came across

This is at the same beach but only on a different side. This is my favorite picture too.

If only there was a little more light..oh well the back view is really pretty.

Thats a part of Eagle falls. It was really pretty..but not all that big.

Thats another beach we came across during a hike. The water is very cold.

I had no clue my grandma was taking this picture. But it would be really nice if I were looking.

All of His Favorite Things

I am actually writing this on Saturday night but it won‘t be posted until I get back to Nevada.

Tonight is my last night in Wisconsin. I am staying at my Mother’s house in Mt. Hope. I left La Crosse this morning at about 11. I wanted to spend some time with my Mother this afternoon but on the way I decided to visit some friends that are staying in Yellow River State Park this week end. For all of you regular blog readers, it is Mark and Jayne. We blogged the e-mail Mark sent us about being at Yellow River this week end. It was great to see them and I scored some fresh “Yellow River” trout!! Thank you Mark and Jayne. Rex will love this treat!

After seeing Mark and Jayne, I went and picked up my Mother. She had already eaten so we went to Lawler Park along the Mississippi River in Prairie. We enjoyed watching the boats and wave runners go by, also all the people watching we were able to do. Then a tour boat came and docked, so we watched them dock, load up with passengers again, and head out. It was interesting as my Mother hadn’t ever watched a boat dock before. Conveniently, The Depot Bar, is located in the park and we were parked right across the street from it. After all that people watching, we decided it was time for a beer, and by golly it tasted pretty good!!

After taking Mother back to Prairie Maison, I stopped at Eunice’s Liquor Store and asked if they had mushroom….yup for $15.00 per pound. So I got 1.5 pounds and as long as I was there I picked up some Schullsburg Baby Swiss cheese.
That completed my list of Rex’s favorite things to bring back to Nevada for him……trout, cheese, and mushrooms!! And what was his best favorite thing…..why that is ME of course!!

GO WEST YOUNG LADY, GO WEST............DAY 3

By Delilah

We're finally here....and I'm glad. Today wasn't as long but still too long for me. We started in Evanston, Wyoming. We drove a total of 631.1 miles today..and a grand total of around 1937 miles. That was the longest trip I've ever been on and or will be going on in a long time. We went to the Bonneville Salt Flatts in Salt Lake City. It was really interesting but I didn't really stand on it because it didn't look all that safe. But, I did get to touch it and put my feet on it. It was really interesting. There was a lot of salt. Lately, I haven't seen very much grass but I have seen many mountains and rocks. I don't think I would do it again, but then again I still have 4 days to see more. I can't wait to go to the lake.

A Grandma note: Both Delilah and I had road weary today. Which means we were both tired of riding and inactivity!!! I was also very tired of driving!! I can't say enough about how good a traveler Delilah has been these 3 days. She has not complained one time!! She has also been agreeable to anything and everything. What a girl!!

Go West, Young Lady, Go West....Day 2

By Delilah
Custom Smiley Delilah and I had a great day today. She will tell you all about it!!

Today we started out in Lincoln, Nebraska around 8:00. We drove 829.9 miles, which brings us to Evanston, Wyoming. We stopped at The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument in Kearney, Nebraska. It was really interesting. They had 8 different stories which were told through personal headsets we were given when we first entered the trip to the past. We got to see old fashion cars, camp sites, toilets, and many more statues. I didn't think i would be interested at all, but I surprisingly was!! After we walked out of the archway, there was a short bridge. There was a fish food thing were you could get a hand full of food for 25 cents. I had no idea of what fish I'd be feeding but after i threw a few pebbles of food in TONS of cat fish were at the surface in seconds. There had to be at least a couple hundred, if not thousand. It was really interesting to see them fight over food.

FINALLY, no farms or barns. Today was all rocks and wide grasslands. The rocks were huge and really pretty. When we woke up this morning it was supposed to be 90 degrees in Lincoln....but the farther west we got the colder it got. I even seen snow today too. We were on I-80 in a Summit Rest area which had the highest elevation on I-80. It was 8,460 feet above sea level. We also seen many license plates from many different states too, that was pretty interesting.

The past few days I've had a lot of "first times". And many more to come. We plan on pulling into Carson City tomorrow, and I can't wait. I've had enough of sitting in a car all day, but I guess I'll have to deal with it if i agreed to come along. I'm sure it will all pay-off getting to see all the things I will, such as Lake Tahoe. I'm really excited by the way.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: WE HOPE TO BE ABLE TO ADD PICTURES TOMORROW WHEN THEY ARRIVE IN CARSON CITY.)

Go West, Young Lady, Go West....Day 1

By Delilah
Custom Smiley I am going to turn this blog over to Delilah, But a few comments first. Today I took my mother out for breakfast to tell her good bye. That was really tough but she is a trooper and knew I was leaving today. I'll be back in October.
Mary

Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska are really boring states. I've seen more farms and barns than I've seen in my whole life. We traveled 471.8 miles today, which brought us to Lincoln, Nebraska. After somewhere around 8 hours on the road, we checked into the AmericInn around 8:30. Shortly after, we went to Diary Queen to eat supper. After snacking on string cheese and fruit all day, I was pretty hungry. I can't wait until we get to the camper and lake Tahoe. But after seeing nothing but farms for days at a time, who wouldn't? Tomorrow my grandma plans on driving 12-14 hours. She was pretty overwhelmed to find out Salt Lake City wont be the only large city..Omaha and Lincoln are pretty large. Omaha actually has a larger population than Salt Lake City. My grandma hopes to get to get to the camper on late Tuesday night, but it's only a possibility. I sure hope we can make it happen..because I'm not the kind of person who enjoys sitting in a car all day doing nothing..but ya gotta do what you gotta do.

A note from Grandma....Delilah DID NOT get car sick and we are thrilled!!

A note to Rex.....did you know Omaha has a population of almost 400,000????? And Lincoln a population of 200,000??? What happened to Salt Lake City being the largest city we had to go through???
