SOUTH PADRE ISLAND

TO GET TO SOUTH PADRE ISLAND YOU CROSS A  BRIDGE (CAUSEWAY) THAT’S TWO OR TWO AND HALF MILES LONG.

THE FIRST THING ON OUR AGENDA WAS TO FIND SEAFOOD TO COOK FOR SUPPER. FRESH GULF SHRIMP SEEMS TO BE THE MOST POPULAR ITEM AVAILABLE.

WE SCORED SOME FRESH BIG GULF SHRIMP, FLOUNDER, AND WHITE SEA BASS. AFTER A SUMMER FULL OF CHICKEN, HAMBURGER, AND SAUSAGE…… SEAFOOD WILL BE ON THE MENU FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AT LEAST.

PIER 19 IS A POPULAR SPOT TO EAT, DRINK, AND WALK OUT ON THE PIER. I TOOK THE BRIDGE PICTURES ABOVE FROM THE END OF THE PIER.

WE WENT TO FIND OUR FAVORITE HANG OUT FROM OUR TRIP 10 YEARS AGO, WHICH I REMEMBERED AS DIRTY EDDIE’S BAR AND BAIT SHOP. AT THAT TIME THEY HAD A PLYWOOD SHACK WITH A LITTLE KITCHEN IN THE BACK OF THE BAR WHERE THEY FRIED UP GULF SHRIMP TO GO WITH YOUR ICE COLD BEER. THINGS HAVE CHANGED (IMPROVED?) AND NOW IT’S A SIT DOWN RESTAURANT, AND WE DIDN’T GET A SHRIMP BASKET AND AN ICE COLD BEER, BUT LEFT IN SEARCH OF THE CORAL REEF BAR INSTEAD.

TURNS OUT I REMEMBERED THE NAME WRONG, IT IS DIRTY AL’S. GUESS I WAS THINKING ABOUT THE WRONG GRANDSON…….
