YARD

Remember the seeds I planted in February??

DSC05693

The plants in the red wash tubs are from the seeds I planted.  The others are plants that we took to Mohave Valley and saved over the winter.

DSC05694

See the temp???  That’s why the plants are indoors on the table.

DSC05695

Warms up during the day so this is where they spend  time in the sunshine. (I hope they are getting enough sun!)

DSC05696

While digging in the yard today, Rex managed to break the shovel…that’s OK, we only live .9 mile from Wal-Mart and walk there almost daily.  So we just got a new one on today’s walk.

My “birthday” butterfly looks nice on this tree.

DSC05699

This wind spinner is left over from last year and one of my favorite things in the yard!

DSC05700

My other “birthday” purchase and he looks great in the yard too!!

On Monday we got a surprise.  Our friend Danny Becker from Iowa came to visit.  We had a great time catching up  with him.  It was a very nice visit.

ARIZONA ROADTRIP

WE MOVED UP TO “THE MOUNTAIN” LAST MONDAY, AND ON TUESDAY AFTER WE FINISHED UNLOADING WE GOT TOGETHER WITH OUR FRIENDS, THE HUNTERS, FOR A COCKTAIL. THEY  WERE LOADING UP THEIR MOTORHOME FOR A LONG WEEK-END IN LAKE HAVASU…. AND… SO….

WHAT THE HELL, AFTER ONE DAY ON THE MOUNTAIN WE DECIDED TO JOIN THEM AT THEIR FIRST STOP IN SELIGMAN, AZ.

DSC05662

WE’VE MADE PIT STOPS IN SELIGMAN, AZ BEFORE, BUT HAVE NEVER TAKEN THE TIME TO DO A WALK ABOUT. THEIR CLAIM TO FAME IS THAT THEY ARE THE HOME OF ROUTE 66, OR THE HEART OF ROUTE 66, OR IF YOU’RE YOUNGER THAN 14 THIS IS “RADIATOR SPRINGS” FROM THE MOVIE, CARS.

DSC05666

SELIGMAN IS ALSO HOME TO THE WORLD FAMOUS “ROADKILL CAFE, YOU KILL IT, WE GRILL IT”"DSC05665

WE ENJOYED OUR EVENING WITH THE HUNTERS AND GOT CAUGHT UP SINCE WE LAST SAW THEM IN JANUARY. A FEW MORE PICS ….

PRESCOTT, AZ IS AN AN OLD WESTERN TOWN AND WAS THE CAPITOL OF THE ARIZONA TERRITORY BACK IN THE 1800’S. THE COUNTY COURT HOUSE IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SQUARE DOWNTOWN. THE WHOLE SQUARE IS BARS, RESTAURANTS, AND GIFT SHOPPING. WE STAYED IN THE OLD HOTEL ST MICHEALS RIGHT ON THE SQUARE.

My Birthday

Ok, I know my birthday was a week ago, but I wanted to show everyone the birthday present I got myself.  I was in a jewelry store, of all places, in January and saw a piece of art made out of horseshoes.   I have been thinking about it since I saw it in January, so I decided to buy it for myself for my birthday.

DSC02277

Isn’t it the cutest horseshow butterfly you have every seen???  I’m thinking about painting the antennas with florescent paint.  What do you think??

DSC02285

A little unexpected development…..this beautiful, colorful, horseshoe owl showed in the jewelry store.   What the hell…it’s my birthday and I want him too!!!  Isn’t he cool??

DSC02288

Don’t want anyone to think that all I do is shop, so here is a picture of my winter painting project….the picture does not do it justice and it was my first use of stencils.  I will use them again.  It was fun and I liked the result.

DUST STORM

YESTERDAY MARY HAD THE DAY OFF AND WE ROLLED OUT THE SCOOTER AT 11 AM FOR A TRIP UP TO LAUGHLIN AND THE LIBRARY. WE FOOLED AROUND LAUGHLIN FOR A FEW HOURS IN SEARCH OF OUR 10,000 STEPS AND PLAYED A FEW SLOTS.

IT WAS A HOT AFTERNOON SO WE WERE IN SHORTS AND T-SHIRTS. ON THE TRIP HOME WE WERE ONLY 1 MILE FROM THE RV PARK AND I POINTED OUT TO MARY A DUST STORM HEADED ACOSS THE VALLEY JUST AHEAD OF US. THE PATH OF THE STORM AND US ON THE SCOOTER WERE ON A COLLISION COURSE. AT ONE HALF MILE FROM HOME THE STORM HIT WITH 50 – 60 MILE AN HOUR WINDS. WE WERE FORCED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND LITTERALLY DUCKED DOWN BEHIND THE SCOOTER FOR PROTECTION FROM THE DUST, SAND, AND ROCKS PELTING US. THE STING ON OUR LEGS WAS NOT COMFORTABLE AT ALL. VISIBILITY WAS ZERO AND WE WERE BOTH THANKFUL FOR OUR HELMETS AND FULL FACEMASK SHEILDS TO PROTECT OUR HEADS AND EYES.

AFTER 10 MINUTES A CAR STOPPED AND WE WERE THANKFUL TO STAND BEHIND THE CAR FOR MORE PROTECTION. AFTER 20 MINUTES WE WERE ABLE TO SLOWLY PROCEED THE LAST HALF MILE HOME THANKFUL FOR THREE WHEELS INSTEAD OF TWO OR WE WOULD HAVE BEEN BLOWN OVER.

AT HOME THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO OUR TRAILER, BUT THE POWER WAS OUT AND REMAINED OUT FOR THE REST OF THE EVENING.

TODAY I HAVE TO HOSE THE DUST AND DIRT OFF THE SCOOTER AND SWEEP THE GRAVEL AND DUST OUT OF THE TRAILER.

CAR SHOWS

T’IS THE SEASON FOR CAR SHOWS IN LAUGHLIN. THERE WERE TWO THIS WEEK-END. THE 30TH ANNUAL CHEVY SHOW AT THE TROP. I’VE BEEN TO THIS SHOW BEFORE AND PUT PICTURES ON THE BLOG SO I LEFT THE CAMERA IN THE SCOOTER. 90% OF THESE CARS ARE ‘56, ‘57, AND ‘58 CHEVYS, ABOUT THE TIME I WAS LEARNING TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN OLDSMOBILE AND A PONTIAC.

THE SECOND SHOW WAS AT THE AVI AND 90% OF THESE CARS AND TRUCKS WERE BUILT LOW TO GROUND. I DON’T GET IT. MUST BE A NEW FAD OF SOME SORT….. I SHRUGGED IT OFF AS ANOTHER GOOFY CALIFORNIA THING. MAKES ABOUT AS MUCH SENSE AS WEARING YOUR PANTS HALFWAY DOWN YOUR ASS…..

I’M NOT SURE HOW YOU GET THE TWO STEP LADDERS LOADED INTO THE BACK AFTER YOU’RE SEATED? THE HEADLIGHTS ARE SIX FEET OFF THE GROUND……
