WEEK # 1

OMG (oh my God), IT'S WEEK # 1!!

Remember 9 weeks ago when we mentioned that once you got to single digits the weeks fly by??? Once again that has held true. The weeks have somehow evaporated and we are now starting our last five days (one hand) of work at the AVI for the 2007-2008 winter season. Now the pace accelerates and we have daily lists of things to accomplish. The lists are on post it notes on the mirror. To make all of those tasks interesting is the fact that traffic will be horrendous due to the "bikers" coming for "Bike Week".

So what are some of the items on our daily lists? Oil change for the Honda is one and putting the Arizona car in storage is another. The trailer also has an appointment to have the wheels greased and bearings packed. That is a definite necessity considering we are planning to haul it about 8500 miles this year. Please no reminders on the price of gas!! This appointment is a pain in the ass since we have to hook up and haul the trailer to the RV place.

We also both have appointments for hair cuts. Want to look nice when we get to Tahoe!! Oh and I sure can't forget a final trip to my favorite library to return my last checked out items. I sure miss my library during the summer as the library in Lake Tahoe really SUCKS! Thankfully I can continue to use emedia to download books for my MP3 player.

That more or less summerizes the errands away from the camper. Now we also have lots and lots of stuff to do inside and outside the camper. Packing for over the road travel and securing inside items are also on the list. We are lucky as we have done this so many times we can hook up and be on the road in about 45 minutes if necessary. Practice makes perfect!!

The only thing standing between us and vacation is 5 days of work....and they will go fast!!

Happy Third Birthday to Eddie Saucer!!

AVI CASINO

IT'S A DAY OFF AND I REMEMBERED TO PUT MY CAMERA IN MY SHORTS POCKET TO SNAP SOME PICTURES. THERE IS A SETTING ON THE CAMERA THAT TAKES PICTURES IN LOW LIGHT WITHOUT FLASH. IT'S PERFECT FOR TAKING PICTURES INDOORS WHERE YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO TAKE PHOTOS, LIKE A CASINO.

WE STOPPED AT THE AVI WHERE WE WORK AND I SNAPPED A FEW PHOTOS TO SHOW YOU THE PLACE BEFORE WE HEAD NORTH FOR THE SUMMER.

AND THE PARKING GARAGE....

THE MOONSHADOW IS IS OUR FINE DINNING, WE'VE NEVER EATEN THERE, BUT HAVE NEVER HEARD A COMPLAINT.

HERE IS THE "PIT" WHERE WE WORK ALL WINTER.

AND HERE IS THE "YOU ARE HERE" MAP OF THE PLACE.....

ALL IN ALL WE LOVE THE AVI, THEY HAVE BEEN VERY GOOD TO US THE LAST EIGHT YEARS, MAKING OUR RV LIFESTYLE POSSIBLE.

SHOUT BOX

WHAT'S WITH THE NEW "SHOUT BOX" ON THE BLOG?

IT'S JUST A NEW WIDGET WE'RE PLAYING WITH. AT THE BOTTOM FILL IN YOUR NAME, AND THEN TYPE YOUR MESSAGE IN THE MESSAGE BOX, YOU DON'T NEED TO GIVE A WEB ADDRESS. IT'S QUICKER AND EASIER THAN POSTING A COMMENT, AND HERE PEOPLE WILL READ WHAT YOU'VE GOT TO SAY.

OR YOU CAN LEAVE A QUICK MESSAGE FOR OTHER BLOG READERS. FOR EXAMPLE MANY READERS, WITH THE COMING OF SPRING WEATHER, HAVE GOOGLED "MOTORCYCLE TOUR AROUND LAKE SUPERIOR", AND UNCLE HANS' BLOG ABOUT THAT COMES UP. YOU MAY WANT TO DIRECT A QUESTION TO UNCLE HANS IN THE "SHOUT BOX" ABOUT THE TRIP.

OR IT MAYBE JUST THE PLACE TO "ZING" REX ON ONE OF HIS STUPID STORIES, ASK A QUESTION, OR EVEN SUGGEST A BLOG ON SOMETHING YOU'D LIKE TO READ ABOUT.

WE CURRENTLY GET SOME WONDERFUL COMMENTS ON OUR BLOG ENTRIES, SO THE "SHOUT BOX" MAY MAKE THAT EASIER FOR OUR READERS, AND WILL CERTAINLY GIVE THE COMMENTER'S MORE EXPOSURE. OF COURSE YOU CAN COMMENT IN THE NORMAL WAY AS WELL.

IF THE WHOLE THING TURNS INTO AN AD CAMPAIGN FOR SMUT, I JUST HIT DELETE.

AN OLDIE, BUT A GOODIE.......

The Buffalo Theory

In one episode of "Cheers", Cliff is seated at the bar describing the " Buffalo Theory" to his buddy, Norm. I don't think I've ever heard the concept explained any better than this . .

"Well you see, Norm, it's like this . . . A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the lowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers."

DATELINE: GREEN BAY

DATE: A SUNDAY SOMETIME IN OCTOBER 2008

RODGERS - OUT

IN SUNDAY'S THIRD GAME OF THE GREEN BAY PACKER'S SEASON, QUARTERBACK, ARON RODGERS BROKE HIS HIS FOOT, PUTTING HIM ON THE DISABLED LIST FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON.

IN A SURPRISE MOVE THE MANAGEMENT OF THE PACKER HAVE RECALLED 38 YEAR OLD, BRETT FAVRE, TO QUARTERBACK THE PACKERS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON. WELCOME BACK BRETT !!!

AN INTERESTING THEORY, AND STORY I'VE USED MANY TIMES ACROSS MY BLACKJACK TABLE WITH CUSTOMERS. THEY ROLL THEIR EYES AND LAUGH, AND HOPEFULLY PUT ME UP FOR A "TOKE" ON THE NEXT HAND.

YOU CAN IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN I RAN ACROSS THIS NEWSPAPER STORY ON THE INTERNET THIS WEEK:

If Packers were in need, Favre might think twice about retirement
.
GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) — If the Green Bay Packers are ravaged by injuries this season, Brett Favre might consider returning should the team reach out to him.

It would be hard to pass up, I guess,'' he told the Biloxi (Miss.) Sun Herald. ``But three months from now, say that presents itself, I may say, you know what, I'm so glad I made that decision. I'm feel very comfortable in what I'm doing and my decision. ``Yeah, I can probably be up there doing that and playing, but again, I don't know. It's only speculating. I think the world of that team. I had a lot of fun, not only this year, but over my career.''

But if Aaron Rodgers went down with an injury?

Aaron has fallen into a great situation,'' Favre said.

And if that opportunity presented itself and they did call, it would be tempting. And I very well could be enticed do it.

''Favre understands the kind of challenge he would face should he opt to go back to the NFL after ending his record-setting 17-year career. And he made it clear he is not changing his mind at this time.

But to think that if they called me in October and told me, 'Hey, we need you this week.' That would be hard,'' Favre said in a story that appeared on the paper's Web site on Tuesday. ``I'm sure mentally, I would be refreshed. I'd be away from it for a long time. But mentally versus physically, the last thing I'd want to do is go up and it's 'Oh this is great' and all that stuff and me be excited and then just flop.

You just can't show up and play.

''There has been a steady flow of speculation that Favre would have a change of heart in the wake of the March 4 announcement the league's only three-time MVP was retiring.

I guess the best response would be, right now no,'' he said of a possible return to the game.

Favre added he would not return unless he was in shape.

It would be hard to go up there at 38. It was hard to stay in shape. I say that, I worked out and I worked out hard,'' he said.

Week in and week out, I was just drained. Finally, for the first time, I felt, not that 38 is old, but I looked around at practice and these guys are bouncing around. And I practiced every day and all the time people would ask me ... `How do you do it? Inside I'm saying, 'I have no idea.' It's a struggle.''
