THE NAVAJO NATION
THE FIRST STOP OF THE MORNING WAS THE HUBBLE TRADING POST, THE OLDEST CONTINUOUS OPERATING TRADING POST IN NORTH AMERICA.
THE NEXT STOP WAS CANYON DE CHELLY, A BEAUTIFUL RED ROCK CANYON WITH SHEAR CLIFFS REACHING 1000 FEET DOWN TO THE CANYON FLOOR. HERE WE ENJOYED A MORNING HIKE ABOUT HALF WAY DOWN TO THE CANYON FLOOR.
THE LAST STOP OF THE DAY WAS MONUMENT VALLEY. IF YOU THINK YOU’VE SEEN THIS PLACE BEFORE, YOU’RE RIGHT, IT’S BEEN USED IN MANY MOVIES INCLUDING STAGECOACH, HOW THE WEST WAS WON, BACK TO THE FUTURE III, AND SOME REALLY OLD CHEVY TV COMMERCIALS. DO YOU REMEMBER, “SEE THE USA, IN A CHEVROLET!”
YOU KNOW AFTER 8 YEARS IT’S ABOUT TIME WE GOT OFF OF INTERSTATE 40 AND EXPLORED ARIZONA.
“SUNNY & 80”
WAIT, WAIT, GOT TIME FOR A RANT? YOU KNOW HOW I LIKE TO RANT ON THE SMOKING LAWS? WELL HERE IS A NEW ONE. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE PROHIBITED IN THE NAVAJO NATION. THIS A GEOGRAPHICAL AREA AS BIG AS ONE OF THOSE STATES OUT EAST AND EXTENDS INTO FOUR STATES HERE IN THE WEST, NEW MEXICO, ARIZONA, COLORADO, AND UTAH. AH…… GUESS THERE WON’T BE A COCKTAIL HOUR TODAY……..
