Caye Caulker (1 of 2)
Since our visit to Belize a while back, Rex has developed a fascination with the tiny island of Caye Caulker. He follows their blogs, weather, and dreams of a possible retirement villa there. We promised we would take a day trip there, as we sometimes do this anyway, just for something to do, and make a report.
We usually go to Belize with the idea to take a fabulous day trip to the Mayan ruins, or snorkeling, or Cave-tubing, or some other fun thing. Then we just sit in the bars and drink. This year we got very ambitious. We took the ferry to Caye Caulker. We sat THERE in the bars and drank. It was quite a pleasant diversion. Here we are walking to the ferry, and Wendy decided to do something else quite unusual for us. Go in the water............
Memorize this schedule, Rex, then you can travel whenever you want in your dream to Caye Caulker .........
...the tickets are $15US apiece, round trip..........
.....Fanta is something Coca-Cola stopped marketing in the US in the 70's. Many other lucky countries refused to give it up. One taste of the pineapple, and you would see why. It makes waiting to board the ferry more fun...........
Wendy boards the ferry. Gee, do you think 600 horsepower is enough for this little boat?
.....there are few tourists on the boat, mostly locals. It's why we enjoy this trip and Rex would as well......
.........the kids of Belize are so cute. Here a mother and child share an Ipod on the 35 minute trip (12 miles)...
...This little sidewalk mosaic greets you at the end of the dock on arrival. It pretty much sums up your whole visit. I have joked in the past that San Pedro (the little town where we stay) is laid back, but Caye Caulker is in a coma! Wendy and I started calling it Caye Coma at this point...........
...this is the sign at the Green Lizard. This little $4US drink apparently packs some punch. The fourth, if you make it, is free. Kinda reminds me of that old T-shirt: "one tequila, two tequila, three tequila, FLOOR!!"
......this sign stares at you from across the cut as you sit on your stool at the Green Lizard. Rex, you need to follow up on this sign on the net. Southwinds Realty is owned by our good friends and neighbors, the Penlands, retired school teachers from Iowa. Let me know what you find out about the new development across the cut.......
.....the old seawall in front of the Lizard attracts a few sun-seekers, and the occasional European will go topless. None today, too quiet on Caye Coma, I guess. The para-sailer is having fun.........
