TREES OF MYSTERY

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES !!! IN CASE YOU COULDN’T TELL FROM YESTERDAY’S BLOG, WE WERE SICK OF THE WEATHER AND READY TO RETURN TO NEVADA OR BETTER YET, YELLOW RIVER AND THOSE FRESH MORAL MUSHROOMS WE LOVE SO MUCH IN THE SPRING.

BUT TODAY THE SUN WAS SHINNING!!! AFTER ALL THIS TIME ON THE DESERT AND IN THE MOUNTAINS WE FIND OUR NEED FOR SUNSHINE TO BE NECESSARY FOR OUR WELL BEING AND MENTAL HEALTH.

WE STARTED THE DAY WITH A TRIP TO THE TREES OF MYSTERY AND SKY TRAIL. THIS IS AN OLD HI WAY ATTRACTION ON U.S. 101 ALONG THE COAST.

THIS PICTURE SHOWS AN OLD REDWOOD, AND IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY AT THE BRANCHES YOU WILL SEE WHOLE TREES GROWING STRAIGHT UP OFF THE BRANCHES. THERE WERE A TOTAL OF TWELVE OF THESE TREES GROWING OFF THE BRANCHES AND ONLY ONE TREE TRUNK IN THE GROUND.

TO PRESERVE THE TREE THIS OFTEN HAPPENS AFTER AN OLD TREE FALLS AS WELL. YOU’LL HAVE A WHOLE NEW REDWOOD GROWING ON A FALLEN TREE OR ON THE STUMP OF ONE THAT WAS CUT IN THE 1950’S DURING LOGGING.

THIS GROUP OF SEVEN REDWOODS IS CALLED THE CATHEDRAL OF TREES. OF COURSE THIS ISN’T A NATIONAL PARK SO YOU CAN RENT THIS LOCATION FOR A WEDDING.

AT THE END OF THE HALF MILE HIKE THROUGH THE REDWOODS IS THE SKY RIDE UP THROUGH THE TOPS OF THESE MYSTERIOUS TREES.

AT THE TOP IS AN OBSERVATION DECK LOOKING OUT TO THE PACIFIC OCEAN.

Rex learned a new trick on his camera and was able to set the timer so both of us were in it. This picture was taken at the top…..a truly breathtaking view!!

We are slowly crossing off things to do on our master list. Another item on today’s list was a road trip on a scenic bicycle path….well actually it was a gravel road that was so narrow and rutted that it looked more like a bike path to me. While on this road we actually met three vehicles, and they were all from Wisconsin….that was weird!! Also this road ran along the ocean, so I kept looking out and suddenly thought I saw something…so I actually stopped in the middle of the road and backed up. Rex said what the hell are you doing…..but he quickly stopped when he saw what had grabbed my attention. We saw a WHALE!! How cool is that??? We were just amazed and felt blessed to see it. It jumped out of the water several times and put on a great show for us.

Well seeing a whale is hard to top but Rex figured out how…..get a load of this picture…and yes the water is freezing.

So on the way home we decided to see the “Tour Thru Tree”…doesn’t the Honda look good there??

Don’t know what’s in store for tomorrow yet, but today will be very hard to top!!

HERE IS THE VIDEO I TRIED TO DISPLAY EARLIER IN THE WEEK. REMEMBER I'M NOT A VIDEO GUY, AND THIS IS MY FIRST ATTEMPT WITH THE SONY CYBERSHOT CAMERA. OVERALL NOT TO BAD FOR A CAMERA THAT'S DESIGNED TO POINT AND CLICK DIGITAL PICTURES, AND NOT A VIDEO CAMERA.
