MUSHROOM HUNTING

I CAN’T BELIEVE IT, BUT FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW WE’RE A WEEK OR TWO EARLY FOR MOREL MUSHROOMS.  WHEN I LIVED HERE, MOTHER’S DAY WAS ABOUT THE END OF THE SEASON, NOW IT LOOKS LIKE IT’S THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON.

WE WENT TO THE SILVER DOLLAR SALOON IN MCGREGOR, IOWA WHERE THEY ARE HAVING A MUSHROOM FEST.

AT LEAST I FOUND THIS MODEL OF A MOREL MUSHROOM.

SINCE MARY AND I HAVE ALWAYS DONE OUR MUSHROOM HUNTING IN THE LOCAL BARS AND BOUGHT THEM, AND THE BAR WITH THE MUSHROOM FEST DIDN’T HAVE ANY, WE REVERTED BACK TO THE OLD FASHION WAY OF HUNTING THEM IN THE WOODS ALONG THE WISCONSIN RIVER.

WE DIDN’T HAVE ANY LUCK, BUT MARY FOUND THIS PATCH OF VIOLETS.

YESTERDAY WHILE MARY WAS CELEBRATING THE 93RD BIRTHDAY I TOOK A 75 MILE SCOOTER RUN TO GET IN SHAPE FOR THE “SPRING OPENER” NEXT WEEK WITH THE BROTHERS. IF YOU’RE FROM THE AREA, I STARTED IN MT HOPE, BLOOMINGTON FOR A BEER, GLEN HAVEN TO DIP MY TIRE IN THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER, BAGLEY FOR AN IRISH BEER, WYALUSING, UP THE WISCONSIN RIVER TO BOSCOBEL, BACK THRU WOODMAN FOR A BEER, AND FINALLY, HOME-A –GINS FOR A PIZZA IN MT HOPE. ONE THING ABOUT WISCONSIN THEY PUT LAYERS OF CHEESE ON PIZZA, NOT A SPRINKEL.

SO FAR THE WEATHER IS HOLDING, WITH TEMPS AGAIN TODAY IN THE MID-70’S.
