SAN JUAN FIRE
A WILDFIRE BROKE OUT 10-15 MILES FROM US LAST THURSDAY NOON. IT WAS HUMAN CAUSED AND STARTED IN A CAMPGROUND ON THE APACHE INDIAN RESERVATION BUT QUICKLY LEFT THE RESERVATION AND INTO THE APACHE-SITEGRAVES NATIONAL FOREST.
THE WINDS WERE BLOWING ABOUT 25 MILES AN HOUR THAT DAY AND IN A MATTER OF HOURS THE FIRE EXPANDED FROM 200 ACRES TO 2,000 ACRES. IT HAD US CONCERN, AND MARY WAS PACKING UP THINGS WE’D NEED IF WE WERE TO EVACUATE.
THE FIRE HAS CONSUMED EIGHT SQUARE MILES AND IS 10 % CONTAINED. THE FIRE AND THE SMOKE, THANK GOD, ARE MOVING NORTHEAST AND AWAY FROM US.
CURENTLY IT’S THE LARGEST WILDFIRE IN ARIZONA AND THERE ARE OVER 500 FIREMEN ASIGNED TO FIGHT THIS FIRE. SO FAR NO BUILDINGS OR HUMAN LIVES HAVE BEEN LOST.
