LAKE IN THE SKY AIR SHOW

THIS WEEK ON MY DAY OFF I HEADED OVER TO THE LAKE TAHOE AIRPORT FOR THE 19TH ANNUAL LAKE IN THE SKY AIR SHOW, CELEBRATING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SOUTH LAKE TAHOE AIRPORT.

IT WASN'T EXACTLY LIKE OSHKOSH, WI. AND THE BLUE ANGLES DIDN'T SHOW UP, ALTHOUGH THEY SENT THEIR CORVETTE.

WHAT MADE THE AIRSHOW INTERESTING WAS THAT FOR A $2 WALK UP FEE, I HAD MARY DROP ME OFF AND WALKED IN, IN THESE DAYS OF HOMELAND SECURITY, I WAS ABLE TO WALK RIGHT DOWN ON THE TARMAC AND LOOK THE PLANES OVER AS CLOSELY AS I WANTED.

IT WAS A WORKING COLLECTION OF VIET NAM AIRCRAFT FROM A COUPLE OF THE NEARBY BASES, ONE OF THEM BEING FALLON, NV. THE YOUNG SOLDIERS ACCOMPANYING THE AIRCRAFT WERE A PLEASURE TO MEET AND VISIT WITH. THEY TOOK THEIR TIME WITH THE OLD AND YOUNG, AND THE KIDS WERE HAVING A BALL CLIMBING AROUND IN THE COCKPITS OF THESE OLD MACHINES.

I WAS EVEN ALLOWED TO WALK THRU THIS OLD HELICOPTER PICTURED ABOVE.

THERE WERE ALSO SOME OLDER WARBIRDS, AND SEVERAL EXPERIMENTAL CIVILIAN AIRCRAFT.

FINALLY THIS WEEK I WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO THE LANDING SITE FOR A FEW PICTURES OF THE PARA SAILORS COMING IN FOR A LANDING.

OF COURSE THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL WAS HERE TO SHOW OFF A LITTLE TOO. THEY DIDN'T STICK AROUND LONG AS THEY HAD AN EMERGENCY CALL TO RUN ON.

THEY ALSO HAD SOME FLYING DEMONSTRATIONS, BUT WITHOUT THE PROPER CAMERA YOU JUST WOULDN'T APPRECIATE THE SMOKE, LOOPS, HAMMER HEAD TURNS, AND ROAR OF THE MOTORS.
