Goldfield, Nevada

Goldfield, Nevada is between Pahrump and Tonopah. Rex decided he wanted to stop in Goldfield and do a little sight seeing. I was glad he did since we saw a really interesting little old town.

Of course no sight seeing can be done without a "thirst parlour" on the tour. The name of Columbia Bar made me a little uneasy until, I realized we were on Columbia Street.

These fellows were sitting just inside the door...they turned out to be the liveliest people there!!

So I am sitting at the bar talking to the bartender who was actually a nice friendly guy, when I suddenly realized something. As I said to the bartender, we have been a lot of places and on any given Sunday during football season, we can ALWAYS find a Packer bar....but this is the first time we have actually found....

a VIKING bar. Who knew???

In addition to these two Viking signs the restrooms had Viking heads on them. Wow a Viking Bar in Nevada....the bartender said the owner was from Minnesota and a big fan.

This sign made us do a double take....not the usual warning!

During the early years of the Twentieth Century, Goldfield had the largest population in the state of Nevada with over 20,000 people. The sign above gives the reason....gold mining!! And rumor has it, if the gold prices keep climbing some of the mines might be reopened. That rumor is also in Oatman. You just never know.

The second "thirst parlour" we stopped in had this slot machine...of course we had to play it, it was calling our name!!
