TWO LONG TRAVEL DAYS
WE STARTED OUT SUNDAY MORNING ON THE MOUNTAIN AT 4:00 AM AND HEADED EAST. WE ARRIVED IN MARY’S HOME TOWN OF MT HOPE, WISCONSIN AT 6:00 PM THE NEXT DAY. TWO LONG DAYS!
FIRST THE GOOD NEWS, THE BIG RED PICK-UP TRUCK RAN JUST FINE AND EVEN GOT 17 MPG ON THE INTERSTATE DOING 75 MPH. BOTH CATS SURVIVED THE TWO DAYS IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK, ALTHOUGH WE NEVER REALLY CAUGHT SIGHT OF SUSIE UNTIL WE STARTED UNPACKING.
MORE GOOD NEWS, THE SCOOTER NEVER MOVED. I MEAN IT HAULED PERFECTLY, YOU NEVER KNEW IT WAS THERE. IT SURE TOOK ME A LONG TIME TO SOLVE ALL THE PROBLEMS AND GAIN MY CONFIDENCE BACK TO SAFLEY AND COMFORTABLLY HAUL THE SCOOTER.
ACTUALLY THERE IS NO BAD NEWS, THE WEATHER WAS PERFECT FOR THE WHOLE TRIP. NO STORMS IN KANSAS, NO FLOODS IN IOWA, SUNSHINE ALL THE WAY. ONCE WE CROSSED THE IOWA BORDER WE WERE LOOKING FOR OUR SWEAT SHIRTS, AND INTO WISCONSIN, JEANS AND SWEAT PANTS WERE OUT OF THE TUBS. NOT “SUNNY & 80”.
IN THE OLE DAYS WHEN WE TRAVELED ACROSS THE NATION IT WAS LIKE A PARADE, FIRST THE BIG RED TRUCK AND CAMPER FOLLOWED BY MARY IN THE HONDA. WE KEPT IN CONTACT WITH THE HAM RADIOS DICUSSING THE SIGHTS, THE STORIES, AND THE NAVIGATION DETAILS. THIS TRIP WASN’T ALL THAT DIFFERENT AS ONCE WE GOT TO ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO WE MET UP WITH JUDY WHO WAS DRIVING HOME TO WAUKON, IOWA AFTER A THREE WEEK TRIP OUT WEST TO VISIT WITH HER GRANDSONS.
WE CHIT-CHATTED OUR 24 HOURS OF DRIVE TIME AS WE DROVE HALF WAY ACROSS THE NATION AND LET THE TOM TOM GPS GADGET KEEP TRACK OF THE NAVIGATION DETAILS. NICE VISITING WITH YOU JUDY, AND MAKING IT A PARADE LIKE THE OLE DAYS.
ONCE WE GOT THE TRUCK AND SCOOTER UNLOADED MARY ENJOYED HER SPRING RITUAL OF MOWING LAWN…..
ISN’T THAT GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME PRETTY?
