PIZZA PARTY

MARY DECIDED TO HAVE A PIZZA PARTY OUT ON THE FRONT PATIO.

DSC01383

SO, I FIRED UP THE DEVIL’S EGG AND MARY INVITED THE JENGA CROWD FOR HOMEMADE WOOD FIRED PIZZA.

I’M ALWAYS AMAZED AT HOW QUICKLY A CROWD GATHERS WHEN JENGA COMES OUT, AND IT’S FUNNY HOW ALL THE YAPPY DOGS HAVE TO GO FOR A WALK TO CHECK OUT THE NOISEY CROWD.

WE’VE ALREADY BEEN INVITED TO AN OUTDOOR LASAGNE PARTY, AND WE’RE SUPPOSED TO BRING JENGA WITH US.

Show Low Farmer’s Market

Show Low has a Farmer’s Market every Saturday morning.  Of course I have to go, mostly to get tomatoes that taste like tomatoes.

DSC01341

As you can see there is quite a few vendors.

These are sandstone wine racks.  They are really beautiful and something I haven’t seen before.

DSC01348

I also have never seen anyone selling heirloom seeds, but if I had a garden I would certainly be buying some.

DSC01349

These pizzelle cookies are Rex’s favorite.  They are really thin and crispy.

DSC01354-001

This is just one stand that sells jewelry.  I don’t really look at them as I have more jewelry than I need to last me the rest of my life!

DSC01356

These are masks and for the life of me I cannot imagine why anybody would want one.

DSC01359

Another thing I haven’t seen at a Farmer’s Market before.  This vendor sells worm casings otherwise known as worm poop.  He also sells live worms to be let loose in your garden, I assume so you can have your own supply of fresh worm poop.

DSC01358

This guy sell grass fed organic beef.  It’s pretty good, I have bought hamburger and soup bones from him.

Well that is the bulk of things sold at this Farmers Market.  There are a few other craft item that people sell too.  Couldn’t get pictures of everything.

I do like this Farmer’s Market but if just doesn’t come close to the one at Lake Tahoe!!  I sure miss it!!

Oyster Mushrooms

They don’t have morels here but they do have mushrooms.

DSC01307

It’s a good thing they are big and this bright color.  I could actually easily find them in the forest.

DSC01308

These are called oyster mushrooms and they are edible.  I sautéed them in  rosemary infused olive oil and garlic.  Then roasted them in the oven.

I repeat these are not morels and they taste like crap!!  At least I won’t have to waste my time looking for them next year!!

The End

Oh my God…..I still had paint left!!   So I had to find something else to paint.  The $20 bookcase I got at the thrift store could definitely use a make over.

DSC01340

This picture really makes the bookcase look a lot better than it actually does.

DSC01360

I can’t deny it, I always have a mess when I paint…..but this mess, the scattered newspapers and tipped over bucket was the work of two cats I know!!  So it’s not always me.  I had to prime this piece with Kilz.

DSC01361

Yup, at this point I can actually see the bottom of the paint can.  At last!!

DSC01378

Here it is…..finally done!!

DSC01379

Had to put this picture up.  The “Happy Campers” picture frame was a gift from our good friends Dawn and Cole.  I think I found the perfect place for it!!

This brings my painting projects to an end for this year.  But I will be up for round two next year.  I already have paint samples to choose from!!

La Posada

In addition to “the corner” Winslow, AZ is where La Posada is located.  La Posada is a hotel from the era of the “Harvey Girls”.

Fred Harvey is said to have “civilized the West” by introducing linen, silverware, china, crystal, and impeccable service to railroad travelers.  La Posada which opened May 15, 1930 was a restaurant and hotel for the Santa Fe Railroad.  It was designed by famed Western architect Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter, best known for her work at the Grand Canyon.  This was in a period of history that women architects were quite uncommon.

Just for the fun of it I am going to list a few of the famous people that have stayed at La Posada:

Charles Lindberg, Anne Morrow Lindberg, Amelia Earhart, Carole Lombard, Clark Gable, Bob Hope, Gene Autry, Howard Hughes, John Wayne, Will Rogers, Wiley Post, Albert Einstein, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and President Harry S. Truman.  That is but a partial list and there are some more recent famous people too, but I found these people the most interesting.

The next few pictures are of one of the rooms.  It is my understanding that all of the room are decorated differently.

The shower and tub in this room is also made out of this beautiful tile.

The current owners of La Posada is Allan Affeldt and his wife Tina Mion.   They moved in on April 1, 1997 and began the renovating right away.  Tina Mion is an incredible artist and a lot of her artwork is on display at La Posada.  You can Google her and see some incredible artwork!!

Our daytrip to Winslow was definitely worth it!!
