Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all of you wonderful, hardworking Mothers out there!!

This is a picture of me with my Mother taken in 2008.

Mother and Dad used to square dance and she made all of her square dance dresses and my Dad's shirts. A lot of time the yoke of his shirts would be out of the same material of her dresses. I remember when she got the tool to affix the snaps to his shirts in the mail. She was really excited to be able to move from buttons to snaps for his shirts. Mother was a beautiful seamstress and you have no idea how much I regret that none of us had the brains to save any of her dresses or his shirts. They were beautiful!!

She was also an avid bowler, and has many trophies to prove it. AND she makes a pie crust that will melt in your mouth. The secret really is home rendered lard. Mother has always been a walker and enjoyed the outdoors. She still does a great deal of walking. Mt. Hope where she lives is very hilly so she does get a good workout in just going to Home-A-Gins, the local watering hole that she visits at least once a day!! She still enjoys a glass of beer in the evening.

My Mother had kind of a sharp tongue that could really make me squirm when I was younger. Now that she is 88, the vinegar has gone out of her and frankly I miss it. Isn't it funny the things that make the most impression on you.

When I was a kid there was one of those decorative plates hanging on the dining room wall. I don't know who gave it to her, my brother or sister but this is what it said.

Mother

To the one that bears the sweetest name
And adds a luster to the same.
Who shares my joys, who cheers when sad
The greatest friend I ever had
Long life to her for there's no other
To take the place of my dear Mother.

How very, very true.
