Caye Caulker, Belize
Today we take the long awaited overnight trip to Caye Caulker. This is the report. It starts on the dock of the water taxi. They sell soft drinks there and we usually have a cold one while waiting. A family was there with teenagers and they bought some, too. It amazed me that they had to be taught how to use the bottle opener. Were they that stupid?, I mean, that is something we could do when we were 3 or 4 years old! Then I remembered, the last time there were capped bottles in wide use was when we were, well, 3 or 4 years old! These kids had never even seen a bottle opener...........
....the trip takes about 25 minutes with 600 hp............
....Wendy makes jewelery with beads as a hobby. She has no access in her catalogues to the beautiful polished conch shell components we found here. A little shopping was in order............
....this was my shopping. Cashews grow well in Belize and they are sold by street vendors in season. They are good...........
....the "cut" is a popular swimming and sun bathing place on CC. It was made by a hurricane (Hattie) in the 60's. The fractured concrete breakwater is where sunbathers gather. This pelican(?) thinks some sunbather may have a fish hiding........
....there are some signs of life at the "red roof" building, a project that I have watched for years. Someone has bought it and is trying to finish it.............
....several bars have these neat hanging swing bar stools. They are quite comfortable and fun to fall off of............
....the only night life is at the Oceanside, the band is on loan from San Pedro on Friday nights: "the Usual Suspects". We are groupies for this band, and see them often as they are popular........
....the guy Rex tipped us off to visit, Ros Creek, had had a dust-up with the police the night before and was anchored off-shore on his boat and pouting. No tour with Ros this trip..........
....The allure of the cut and the "red roof" project is the sunset. The whole country of Belize lies to the west of the Caribbean and so sunsets over the water are rare. This is from the cut, a place that enjoys both sunrises and sunsets......
